11x7.5 is what I use. that 10 is too fast a prop for the plane, you want to use it as a trainer, not a sport plane. These planes practically land themselves when setup right. If the wind is just right I can nearly harrier land mine. I need to rebalance mine, its a tad nose heavy with the FG-11 on it, so may move the battery pack back a bit.

Hmmm.. while the HP is behaving very nicely, it is a "little" .40. I'd be concerned that an 11x7.5 would lug it down too much.
The 10x6 was actually decent. At full throttle, another instructor/student with their Apprentice was lapping me pretty easily. But at this point, having essentially no thrust at idle, but fast response for "go arounds", would be the goal. I have a couple of 12x4's knocking around from my .46 fun fly plane.......
All in good time. Can't really make a good decision until the engine fully breaks in.

If you can add me to the list,
Kadet Mark ll, 15 years ago,

recently replaced it with a Senorita with a .52 4 stroke. Like it much better! Removing the dowels and installing blocks for wing bolts.

You are absolutely correct.
While the HP Gold Cup 40 is a very nice engine, it has nowhere near the power of a more current 40. It also is not designed to be overloaded with a large prop. That does not work well.
Here's a pic of my Kadet MK2 with an HP 40 Gold Cup with many hours on it previous to use in the Kadet. Prop was a Master Airscrew 10-6. Take offs were very long. In flight performance was very good. Landings were not fast or long.

A friend gave me a NIB MDS .25 he has been trying to sell for years. The infamous reputation the larger MDS engines for exploding overshadowed it. I was thinking of putting it on a Fornier F4D but maybe I should consider a Kadet L-25 or Senorita instead?

Is there a large difference in the way they fly between the Kadet Senior and the Senorita?

I've had a near stock Jr and it was more aerobatic than my senior. Never had a Senorita, so can't directly answer the question. I ended up cutting the jr's wing at the center line to half the dihedral and adding strip ailerons. A whole different animal. Loads of fun. I have since built 2 more Jrs. with reduce dihedral and ailerons. All 3 Jrs would snap roll and spin like a top. My Sr also has half dihedral and strip ailerons. It will not snap or spin no matter how hard i try. Even shifted the cg back as far as it would safely fly at.

Why such a difference? Beats me, just is.

Ken

I'd guess it has to do with the wing area. A four foot wing has a lot less length to roll than a 5.25 or 6.5 foot wing on the Seniorita or Senior. When you compare the wing area to the strip ailerons normally used on these planes, it's not hard to figure out

Thanks for the reply Ken, I really like flying my Senior Sport which has the large barn door ailerons and tail surfaces. I'm thinking real hard about picking up a Senorita Sport as well. Since it also has the large barn door ailerons, big tail surfaces and shorter wing, I'm hoping that it will be a little more aerobatic than the senior.

I thought I had joined this quite a while ago as I have been flying Kadets for many years. As you can see I have a few Kadets to include 2 Senioritas and 2 Lt-40s. Actually there are 3 LT40's here in the pics as the Low wing plane hanging with the paint splatters is an Lt40 converted to a low wing. My favorite plane is the Lt40 and my primary plane is called My SigNificant Other! I regularly attend Float flys and all of my Kadets are converted to fly with floats.
Keep up the good work on the Kadets and it is great to see more builders keeping the hobby alive.

Default Problem taxiing

Hello I have a problem with the tailwheel of my kadet senior sport. The stock tailwheel was not working because it bended with the weight of the model and tended to turn only to one side. So I replaced the tailwheel for a ohio superstar that is linked to the rudder music wire using a custom two arm linkage and springs. The fact is the rudder now works fine when taking off, the tailwheel turns great on the ground but the taxi difficult because the plane turns right or left fine if it is not a tight turn but it is impossible for me to make it turn continuously, so I cant turn the plane 180 degrees for example. The plane starts turning but gets straight after a second although I am keeping the rudder turning.
How can Isolve this?

Also the plane tends to balloon heavily when I apply more than 1/2 throttle, this is with trim fully down. Is this normal? I am using a saito 82 for power.

Regards.

If it goes straight when the rudder is turn the wheel could have loss contact with the surface. You are also fighting the torque of the motor at this point. Is the engine mounted straight or do you have any side thrust built in?

The landing strip is tarmac abd a little bouncy but I cant understand why it starts turning fine and after a second or two it gets straight again and throttle spikes wont help much.
the firewall has the proper angle to compensate torque.

If you are not doing it already use up elevator when taxiing. This will keep the tail fully on the grownd. Also my experiance is sometimes those springs on the Ohio tail wheel setups are not strong enough. I have used solid wire or cables to the tailwheels for a more positive connection.
when you pop the throttle you can use some down elevator and if you have enough rudder athority it will turn on a dime without the tailwheel in the ground.
as for Balooning.. check your engine mount down incedence.. you may not have enough.. 2 to 3 degrees atleast to start.
