Painting suggestions
Whereas I can't find my 'stash' of Hobbypoxy brand paint (grrrrrrrrrrr), and the plane is glassed and will be powered by a 4-stroke engine; any suggestions on how/what to paint my Dragon Lady with would be appreciated. I do have and would prefer to use my spray gun, but all options are on the table.
Thanks,
Jerry

If you were going to use HobbyPoxy or the old K&B SuperPoxy, there is really only one substitute. Go here ....
http://www.klasskote.com/
I have even used up some of my old stock of HP and SP using their thinners, etc.
Many people also substitute the modern automotive polyurethane base coat / clear coat finishes but sometimes there is no substitute for a good epoxy paint.

I second Klass Kote. I used it for my last plane and loved it. It is my goto paint now.
Easy to use and gives excellent results. Customer service is excellent too. The owner will attach his card to the shipment.

While we're on the subject of paint, has anyone used 'old' klasskote? I used some at work 2-3 years ago and put the lid back on tightly. When I went to use it again it seemed thicker and I had a helluva time spraying it even though I added more thinner/reducer than called for to think it out.
Or could this have been caused by something else???

Bob,
I pulled this off of KlassKote site: "The shelf life of the unmixed components is measured in 10's of years for the side-A component, and 3-5 years for the side-B component. Store unmixed cans in a dry, moderate environment for best shelf-life results."
Maybe the part "B" component was the issue.
I just finished painting my 1/3 Waco with KlassKote and it is some great stuff, it will be my paint of choice from now on.
Later!!

The lid only kept more air from entering the can. When you put the lid back on, there was a layer of air above the liquid; below the lid.

RE: Painting suggestions
I've been using Klass Kote for a number of years now and it's a great product. I beat the clean-up issues by discovering a disposable sprayer system called Preval. I get them at our local home-improvement store. For $5 I get a paint jar with a sprayer unit attached. I mix the Klass Kote 1/3 part A, 1/3 part B, wait 30 minutes for induction per the instructions and then add 1/3 reducer. So it would be 2 oz. A, 2 oz. B and then 30 minutes later 2oz. reducer. Sprays awesome right out of the unit. When you're done, throw it out. Look 'em up. You can freeze the jar of un-used mixed Klass Kote and re-use it for up to a few weeks and customer service at Klass Kote has always been top-notch. Dave

Hey Jerry, in order to save a few bucks a lot of folks are painting with automotive paint and then just using the Klass Kote clear to make the finish nitro resistant. I plan to give this method a try in the future.

Bob, when you open the container of Klass Kote paint make sure that you clean the threads of the can after use. As Anthony stated it does have a shelf life, however the next time that you order paint from them have them throw in a few extra caps in the order.(they won't charge you for this)I'm not talking about the screw on caps but rather the press on caps that go under the screw on cap. Preventing air from entering your paint will help keep a longer shelf life...This has helped me out as I had the same problem.
