Default SIG SSE engine recommendations?

Hey all,

I started another kit. It is a SIG SSE which so many of you are familiar with.

the manual calls for a .40 to .46 2 stroke or even a 50 class engine. The manual also seems to discourage going with a four stroke in this plane. Any comments on that? Any good gas options?

I would like to hear from anyone with recommendations for a good engine. I am looking to get great aerobatic capabilities out of this plane, so I don't want it to be underpowered.

Thanks for help!

I had one when they first came out and used an Irvine .53. Combo worked great. Flew it over a year then sold it at a swap meet - where it went I don't know.

I had a Saito .82 on one for over a year. I had to recurve the LG for prop clearance but it was a great combo. I also had to relieve the inside of the left cheek for throttle clearance, but it was not real difficult.

I've seen one with a 72. I was given a mostly finished kit that I'm putting an unused 72 on once I lengthen the fuselage several inches.

An Evolution 46 with an OS A3 plug and APC 12.25x3.75 prop will hover with plenty of pull out power to spare. The old Tower's muffler gave mine a 1000 rpm boost.

I have had a SSE that late in its lifre was used as an engine test bed. For me the engine I enjoyed the most was a .46 OS two-stroke engine running a 11.5x6 APC prop.My SSE has also been used with Saito 56, Saito 72 and Irvine .53 engines, but it was the .46 I liked the best.

If all you want to do with the SSE is to hover, the 12.25X3.75 is a good prop, but it sucks for general aerobatics as it doesn't provide enough airspeed for large loops, cuban eights etcetera.
