Default Which BUSA WWI Kit?

Hey Guys!

Looking for some opinions here from those that have built one from the list below. I want to build a 1/4 scale BUSA WWI kit over the winter, and I have a US 41 gasser for it. So my question is, which of the following kits can best accomodate the engine, is easiest to build and flys well. I have many years of experience of building and flying so let hear from you guys! Thanks!

Listed in no particular order....

Sopwith Pup
Nieuport 11
Nieuport 17
Nieuport 28
Fokker DVII
SE5a

They are all great kits, but for a first timer I always lean toward the D7.They fly great, somewhat easy to build, and no flying wires. With your engine size it is probably the best fit also.Nieuports are great flyers too,but I think you will be way overpowered.-Jeffo

I put a US 25 in my 1/4 BUSA Pup and it was a perfect match for power and weight; I didn't need any nose weight to balance it. For the US 41 motor, I would go with the D VII also.

FB,

Why would you open two identical threads on this subject?

you have one on each Kit Building and RC Scale Aircraft?

I went through the same choices last year as I was covering Warbirds Over The Rockies. I had been thinking of building a WWI plane and needed to decide which one to build. I was filming the World War One gaggle and just about every WWI plane available was up in the air flying during that gaggle, so I got to see them all in the air at once. When it came time to decide I choose the Fokker D-VII. There were two main reasons why I choose that one. First, I just plain out liked the looks of it. And second, it doesn't have flying wires on the wings. I've been to many events over the years and one thing I noticed was how long it took to put together and take apart most WWI planes, mostly because of the flying wires on the wings. I wanted to avoid that if I could.

With the engine you have available going with a D-VII would be a great matchup.

Hope this helps

Ken

Ken - thanks for the feedback! It seems that the DVII is best choice for several reasons. I did forget about the Spad though, anybody have any experience with it?
