Nice job! It really does resemble the Japanese fighter in the first picture! You easily call it stand off o stand way off scale.

That 4* is SOOOOO cool!!!!!!!!! You've done a lot of work on that - well done indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy at the field was right - hard to believe that's a lowly 4* standing there.

It looks like you've done something rather interesting on the landing gear. Might we see of pic of just how you did that?

I cut the original landing gear in half and bolted it to hardwood blocks I put in next to the main wing spar. That wasn't a great idea. Firstly, with a full fuel tank, the wheels were far enough back the a nose over on the ground was pretty easy to accomplish. Second, my first landing on rough grass caused the gear to rip out. It's back i the stock position after that.....

I finally did it. After spending the past couple of weeks getting comfortable with the Kadet Jr, I dared a maiden flight on the Aerosportster. The little Fox .15 BB provided enough power to drag it into the air before it went to far off the edge of the runway and into the mud pit. After a coupe seconds of frantic control inputs and clearing the tree tops it took 5 clicks right aileron and 3 clicks up elevator to get it predictable. I can't say handsoff, this little thing wants to go everywhere but where you leave it. Loops are nice and round, rolls not exactly axial, but easily done. Then the landings...it slows down surprisingly easy. I fell behind the power curve on both landings and ended up pancaking short of the 'good' runway. Got away with a little mud on the tips and a loose gear mount but it was ugly to watch. I think the gear mount will be an easy fix. Improving the runway will take some time.

Shoot! To me, this looks like a GOOD day.

You're in one piece.

Plane's in one piece.

Field is still available.

GOOD DAY!!

AND that's not slime on the wing. It's the sweet smelling residue of victory..........

Thanks guys! Yeah, I would have to agree. All in all it was a pretty good day. And, yes. That is the residue of proof dripping off the wing. For some reason that Fox spits brown goo everywhere. Has since the first time I put it on the break-in stand. It runs great though!

Have you considered putting one of those exhaust extenders on the muffler outlet? It could help keep the slime off the plane, shortening clean up after your last flight.

I have looked at those, and I am doing a Du-bro order soon, so maybe I'll get a couple. But I don't mind the oil slick down the side that much. Once you know how to interpret it, it is like an EKG print out for your engine.

Don't worry even with a diverter there will be plenty of oil around to check on your engine.......

The basic structure is now complete on my 1/4 clipped wing Cub. Now I have to start the covering. I will use the traditional Hazel Sig scheme but use a dark red as the base color with gold stripes. I will start on the wings and the ailerons as I want to paint the interior of the fuselage. I am leaning toward white but might switch to gray.

Default Another Kougar CG question

Hi guys
I’ve read a ton of forums about balancing a Sig Kougar but none have told me if I should balance at the wingtips with the plane upside down or right side up.
I know it’s 1/2 inch from the LE at the wing tips.
Only answer if you KNOW the answer-
im not interested in hearing stuff like 30% of wing cord or “Look at the plans” or “Go to Sig” or “I used to have one that flew great but I don’t know the CG.”
I just want a legitimate answer from someone who is currently flying one.
Thank you

I don't know anything about the Kougar......but being a low winged plane, I'd measure the cg with it inverted.

Low wing aircraft are easier to balance inverted, it won't affect the balance it the least. By inverting a low wing aircraft you get the pendulum, action of a high wing aircraft.

Use a Vanessa rig to balance it. This way you can sight down from wing tip to wing tip and get the most accurate balance you can. The VR, if you don't know about it, uses a plumb bob, and points to the balance point of the plane. Probably the best tool I have ever come across. Vanessa c.g. Rig: How to.

I've seen it but had no idea what to call it! I'll have to try that on the Sig Riser 100 that's on my building board presently

Thanks

If you could be so kind to add me to the Sig Brotherhood. I have flown Kadets on and off for 40 years and I just added a Kavalier to the fleet.

I finished my winter project, a Sig Kavalier, and all I can say is "Wow" what a great kit and flying airplane! This was my first build in 20 years. I planned the construction and modifications for months before I started, and built it in two months time; a record for me and it turned out beautiful. I converted it to a taildragger with split elevators joined by a control horn, and I have the rudder extended down to the fuselage bottom. I took out most dihedral and installed two aileron servos. I stopped the ailerons one rib bay short of the wingtip (no flutter). Put a OS.46 up front, installed the servos towards the rear of the compartment and it balanced perfectly without adding weight. It came in at 5.5 lbs.

I just put 5 flights on it and it flys great. Rock solid and flies on rails just like others describe. The OS.46 is the perfect match for it. I will try to add photos when I am able.

Thank you Sig for still being there for us builder/flyers!

ABSOLUTELY!!!! Always room for more brothers in the SIG B'hood! Gotcha both logged - Flyboywbl has #220 (because his entry was just barely in front) and Scale only 4 me has #221. Welcome, both, to the SIG Brotherhood!!

By the way, I want to see the plane that the wing section above the P-51 is destined for. That's GOTTA be an interesting airframe.

And so, once again, the SIG Brotherhood, as I've got us today:
