I had to add 14oz of lead to the nose to get mine to balance

Wow, that's almost a pound! I knew going into this build, that Bonanzas build tail heavy. I've keep the back as light as possible and have added additional items in the front to get more strength and weight...

I have a theory that all Top Flite scale kits are tail heavy. Mine all seem to be that way.

I thought I was building light as possible too with glass and paint, but still needed that much to balance, 17lbs total flying weight

In the end, with all the scale details that you added, you did well. 17 pounds is good in my book, I've heard of 20+ pounds for some other builds!

I did all the corrugations on the ailerons and flaps, my thought was every swipe of sand paper meant less weight on the plane.

On my Caddell Bonanza A36 I was planning on using a Dremel router attachment and building a jig to make the corrugations. I got the idea from G. MacIntosh's Stinson 108 build.

Quick question, when you routed out the ailerons/flaps, etc. did you increase the thickness of the balsa sheet stock, and how deep did you go for the effect?

I shaped a 1-3/8" x 1-3/8" x 1-1/2" balsa block which blends the leading edge of the wing into the fuselage. It's called a wing fairing block.

The right hand wing fairing block.

The block is shaped to fit the contour of the fuselage side.

Checking the fit before I start to spread the glue...

Nice job I didn't even realize the block was missing before. That is a great detail.

Cutting the cowl for nose gear clearance. Note that I had to add one more cowl mounting block just to the left of the gear cutout.

That should work, I cycled the gear up and down several times and no binding detected. One more thing crossed off my punch list.

Here is a set painted w/ Klasskote epoxy white. The nomenclatures panels are just home made decals. Makes a big difference w/ painted gear.
I appreciate your craftsmanship.

Very nice EDP! I agree, those painted gear look great. I plan on doing the same using Klass Kote paint as well. I love Klass Kote paints, I am going to have a custom color mixed for this project. Thanks for showing us those pics!

Thank you.
I've always like the Debonair and Bonanza series. I build Ballistic Pattern birds but will finish other's scale stuff for a challenge.

Both gear and aluminum wheels are made by Robart.

This morning I wanted to finish sizing the openings for the main retracts. I visited my local hardware store and purchased this plumbing fitting that was darn close to the size of the opening that I wanted.

With a few twists, I got the clearance that I wanted around each wheel.
