TF Beechcraft Bonanza F33A Build

It's been five days since I sprayed the base color. I haven't touched anything until today as Klass Kote instructions say that full cure of the paint happens somewhere between 4-7 days. I thought I would take the opportunity and start the install process on the canopy's windows and windscreen. Early on in the build, while fitting the windows to their openings, I knew I was bound to get some scratches on the surface of the plastic. I wasn't too concerned at the time because of the step that I am doing now. I'm using this polish and soft cotton cloth to polish and remove the scratches.
It's kind of ironic that I've spent the time to remove scratches from the inside and outside surfaces of the windscreen but around the inside perimeter of the windscreen I am making sure that the mating surface is scuffed to give the canopy glue better adhesion to the plastic. I'm using a small piece of 400 grit paper to accomplish the job.
Here's what it should look like.

Why is that ironic? Glue doesn't normally stick to a smooth, polished surface so, by scuffing the gluing areas, the glue has something to grab. Your only other option would be to use a solvent based glue but that could damage the plastic parts, if not worse.

Vince, I don't know what you plan to use as an adhesive but when I was building for hire ( mostly Comp ARF 40% stuff ) I would scuff the front and back side of the canopy lip. I would then tape the canopy in place from the outside and put a small bead of E6000 adhesive on the joint between the plastic and the fiberglass on the inside. It worked really well. If the canopy ever needed to be removed it was as simple as running an Xacto blade around the edge of the canopy.

Paint color - Moondust
The paint color "Moondust" is a very, very, light beige. My V35B's basecoat was painted this color. The pics Vince has posted make his
model look darker than it actually is. Moondust seen close-up is a really nice base color! The stripes were Midnight Blue Metallic and Gold.

Is it possible that the lighting made a difference in the way the color looks in the picture? I know I've seen many times where inside lighting has changed the color of paints that was not discovered until after the fact when the picture was held up against the full sized subject that was in the actual picture

Moondust paint
Take a look at any of the full-sized F33A pics Vince has posted, like Post #1488. I believe Vince was given strict instructions
to re-create Moondust. And I'm sure he did. Most likely, the sodium vapor, halogen, or fluorescent lighting in the shop did not
do his base coat justice. The camera/flash attachment, I'm sure also played a part. Outside pics will show a much-truer
representation.

A pin vise was again used to remove the paint in each hole.
A thin bead of canopy glue was applied to the sanded lip of the window before installing.
Stainless screws were installed. Besides the screws being a scale detail, they also were very useful in holding the window in place while the canopy glue dries!

That may be some good sleuthing there Speed. I'll do a little more research...

Speed after more research it appears that you are correct about the unpainted screws on the door window. The good news is that it will be very easy to correct. I have extra screws that I will paint and swap one at a time to prevent the wind screen and window from shifting position. Thanks for picking that up...

All of the windows have been successfully installed. I was a bit concerned with how flexible the canopy was prior to installing the windows, but after installing the windows and windscreen in place made the canopy very solid. In my final fitment of the windows prior to paint, each opening was enlarged a bit inconsideration of the paint thickness. Each window fit perfectly. I like the sharp clean edges produced by installing the windows after paint rather than taping the windows before spraying paint. A bit more polishing of the windows and replacing all the unpainted screws with painted ones and the canopy will be done!

Just to keep everyone informed, the two contrasting trim colors for this project have been identified. Paint chips have been sent out to Klass Kote paints for them to reproduce. I would think that I should have them in about two weeks or less... probably a good time for me to spray those screws!
On a sadder note, I just learned that the modeling industry has lost one of its greats, someone that I admired for a long time, Frank Tiano, the father of "Top Gun" passed away yesterday. RIP Frank...

Top gun was a highly successful event so the potential to keep having it is there but the reality is that somone needs to jump into Frank's shoes. Not a small task. At this point we can only hope. When Bill Bennett passed we had hopes that the TOC would continue but because the TOC was fully funded by Bill, the family viewed it as a waste of money. Not only would they not continue the contest but they would not give up the rights to the TOC name either. A real shame. Frank will be missed on many levels.
Onto something more positive, I'm sure I'm not the only one anxiously waiting to see trim colors applied and a mock up. Of course then we will be sitting on pins and needle waiting for the maiden Video.
