Default original curare build

Good day all
So im building a 70s curare kit (see pix) I had to build the nose from scratch since some parts went missing during a move.
Some advice please?
- Paint or cover? I would prefer paint but it might be heavier. What paint or cover would you recommend?
- What make of retracts would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!

If I expect a model to last more than few months I have been glassing and painting them. My film covered models all seem to start having wrinkles and the seams come unglued. With generous use of sandpaper and elbow grease I can get a glass finish at the same weight as Monocoat. Both the Dirty Birdie and Troublemaker in the photos have built up and sheeted wings. DB is 7#11oz, TM is 7# 3 oz.

Thanks Chuck. So you recommend fibreglass? This model is all balsa covered as you know, should I then fibreglass over balsa? Or base coat and then paint?
all the best

Both models were done with .75 oz fiberglass cloth, epoxy finishing resin, polyurethane primer, and Klass Kote epoxy paint.

+1 on R8893's advice. It may be more work up front but i find that a glass finish holds up well in the long term.

Since you asked: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...it-from-Vicsrc

You can find short kits for the Curare 20 (47") and Curare 40 (58") here: http://www.balsaworkbench.com/?page_id=302
