Sandwiching carbon veil on foam wings
I'm building a Tiporare and have a couple of questions about adding a layer of .2 oz carbon tissue underneath the wing and tail skins. I do have a vacuum bag, but this will be my first time using it.
I cut the cores myself and did a feather trailing edge so I could cut out the ailerons and elevators from the completed piece. I plan to glass and paint after they are done.
1. Is there any benefit to using the tissue? I know academically there is, as the wing will be measurably stiffer. But practically? Will the plane fly better or be more durable in some way? Tissue the whole thing, or just the control surfaces?
2. I have a choice of West epoxy with the medium hardener or Gorilla Glue. I seem to recall reading about someone who GG'ed the core, laid the tissue over it, then the sheeting, and then bagged it. Has anyone here done that? Or would I get better results by using the epoxy and laying it all up wet, or bonding the CF to the skins first then doing the wings?
3. Another option I've considered is attaching the carbon to the skins with dope to save some weight and then skinning.

Your biggest gain from using the CF veil will be to use a good quality epoxy laminating resin. West is OK but remains somewhat soft compared to other brands. If I were to use this method, I would wet out the veil on some painters plastic slightly oversized. Once wet out, blot with paper towels to remove excess resin. Then lay your wing sheeting down and trim to the final size. Flip the sheeting over with the CF veil and plastic. Carefully remove the plastic sheeting and lay down your core. Repeat for the other side. This keeps the weight gain from the resin to a minimum.
Now that being said, since the Curare wing is rather thick I don't see much of a benifit by using the veil in the first place.
