Hello
I have started to build this kit, have increased the rudder and plan on cutting holes in the fuselage and other areas to reduce the weight,I am aiming for about 7 - 7.5 lbs. I used to have the smaller 40 size version which was built as per the book with a 70 surpass that ran perfectly but the all up weight was to high, I switched to a os 46FX and the planes weight reduced to 6.25 lb but it was still a brick.

My question is; is any one running a YS 1.10 on the GP extra 300 60, or a OS 91 surpass. could you comment on the preformance and state the weight of your plane. I dont know weather I should use the YS that I all ready have or get a OS 91 as I think the YS might be an over kill at 7- 7.5 lbs.

Without serious attention to weight savings this planes will be in the 7.5-8lb range. A Saito 100 with a 15x6 on 30% Heli fuel is a good setup with unlimited vertical. Vertical is not unlimited in 15% nitro. The plane would be better with a YS 1.10.

Captain,

I am finishing up mine, I can start covering soon, I need to do some minor things, like fuel pump and needle valve installation cutting the canopy. I had finished the cowl ring, I used 1/16" ply, tried clamping but I bought a cheap 12" scroll saw which cuts like crap so it did not work. I finally got a nice scroll saw today. I am screwing the cowl ring to the firewall sides with 4 servo screws.

I installed the elevator and aileron servos and will adjust the location of the rudder servo and battery about 7oz to get correct CG. Got titanium pushords and they are nice and light.

I did not hear anything from fiber-lite altough sent couple of emails, so I am going to mold my own. This will be my first try molding, I got the info from https://www.cstsales.com/How_to_Arti...ovely_legs.htm will be keeping the same dimensions as the stock gear except the thickness and widest part instead of 1 1/4 I will have 1" to save some weight, the thickness I am planning is about 1/8" 6-7 layers of Carbon Fiber. I have an experinced club member helping me. How thick is your landong gear? Does 1/8" sound right to you.

Also I did not buy the wheel pants as they were about $40 and will be molding them from the stock, lets see what I will do. Altough I am going to spend about $120 to mold the gear and pants, I think it will pay back by the next project.

I also cut male and female molds for the tail gear, yep, I am going to mold it too, like the ones TNT Sells, but those will be my experiments before making a mistake on the main gear.

Now just checked the fiber-lite web site and they have one for Funatna 90, which is 1/2" wider at the fuse and 1: longer at fuse side and seems like a good fit

Captain,

I bought the fiber-lite gear for Funtana 90, it will be cheaper than making my own and pretty close fit to GP Exra 60

Captain and for those who are interested in replacing the stock landing gear in GP Extra, I received the carbon fiber gear from Fiber-lite for Funtana S 90 and here are some pictures compared to stock gear.

What is not noticable in these pictures is the weight difference. This is probabaly the best investment in terms of GP Extra diet for <$37 shipped it is good deal. the specifications from fiberlite says it is just 90grams about 3.2 oz.

It is about 1" wider than the stock gear and the width of the gear fits perfect to the stock location and a little wider at the ground and higher.

I am pretty happy with the gear, and that was a fast shipment from Fiber-lite.

Hi everyone, if anyone is out there,

Almost 2.5 years since the last post. This was an excellent thread. I'm building this plane now. Wish I could find a source for the carbon fiber gear. Oh well. The modifications I've made are to hide the aileron servos in the wing and to beef up the landing gear attach structure.

Since it was apparently not posted on this thread, it was "revived" back in December of 2004.

I have no Idea of who ,made the petition to not post it anywhere...
