I'm building this kit without the instruction manual. Everything is straight forward but there are a few pieces On the 1/4" balsa sheets the ailerons are cut from there are two pieces between the aileron halves , one is double tapered and the other is tapered on one side only. I'm not sure what they are for.

Thanks,

Jay

I believe they are to allow you to sand the rudder balsa corner braces to shape. They temporaily take the place of the rudder and stab.

John is correct, I am just finishing mine and he is right. The two pieces are glued in the shap of a "T". It should be easy to find out which one is the bottom that attaches to the area where the horizontal stab is glue on. The other piece makes up for the space taken up by the vertical stab. The instructions indicate that you take the T and glue it "sparingly" to the fuse where the stab attaches. Then you take the balsa blocks that are meant for the tail fairings and attach them to the form also "sparingly." The idea is that the upsidedown "T" will take the place of both the vertical fin and the horizontal tab and the blocks can then be carved/sanded to shape them to match the fuse as it approaches the end of the fuse. Once sanded into shape, you need to remove the upside down "T" with the sanded blocks attached, then remove the sanded blocks from the "T". Once you glue the horizontal stab to the plane and then add the vertical fin, you glue the sanded blocks to them. The only question to ask yourself is if you want to cover them before they are glued, or after. I chose to cover before I glued them in place.

I hope this helps.
