Hmmm. Not sure what happened with only the pic and no TXT.

Ordered this Tuesday from The Balsa Workbench was not expecting it for a few weeks but dang this was fast and excellent quality to!
Now waiting for the plans to show up to compare with.
Have the Cowl, Wheel pants, Canopy on order from Fiberglass Specialties.
Powered the last one with a OS 1.08 and had to add tail weight so im thinking maybe going with a little smaller lighter engine.

Looking forward to seeing your build. Any feedback on the plans would be appreciated.
Good luck

I am working on the Ultimate 10-300 plans, real life and summer got in the way of my drafting. Hopefully I'll get back to them as fall sets in.

From looking at manuals it looks like the 1.20AX may beat the 1.08. 1.20ax says 3.1-PS? what ever ps is.
The 1.08 is 3.0-BHP Weight wise the 1.20 is lighter by about 6OZ. How do they compare size wise. Never seen a 1.20AX my self.
Ahh. Here is what PS means. PS (pferdestärke) " A metric horsepower that is the equivalent of 0.986 horsepower" So it looks like the 1.20AX is actually 2.958BHP.

i have a goldberg ultimate that i restored with new covering , radio and engine.
i replaced the old 1.08 with the 1.20 ax.
its better in every way. Size wise they are similar in size but the mounting holes are different.
it has better parts availability much quieter and better on fuel.
the 1.08 was always a great engine but the 1.20 is even better.

Well either engine is close to double the power of what it was designed for. Im not into 3D my self pretty much stick to sport flying and basic imac stuff. I don't fly around at full throttle much except for up lines naturally.
I would think it would be hard to tell the difference between the two in the air flying my normal style.
Because of the weight difference ill try a 1.20ax if a decent deal pops up before next spring but for sure will not pass on a 1.08 either if a good deal pops up!

No worry. House projects have certainly hampered my summer fun!

Ok So plans arrived and i laid a few various parts over them( maybe 10) and they matched perfectly Nice, will certainly make things easier.
Few questions though if any one knows the answer i would sure appreciate it.
The leading edge called out is is a special shape and is now unobtainable as far as i know. I have 2 ideas for making it.
1. Fill the little triangle cutout area with balsa, Add a false 1/16 balsa leading edge then the real leading edge allowing the balsa wing skin to butt up to it.
2. use a piece of 3/4in square balsa the wing skin can butt up to and sand to shape from that. Im leaning to this solution but the cutout in the rib will need to be made to match the 3/4in stick.
Also got my hands on a OS 1.20AX. Holding up against the plans it will fit nicely and is smaller then a OS 1.08. If the 1.20AX was about 1/4in smaller it would fit entirely inside the cowl and not need a cutout for the head.
Only pic of my original Extra but i believe you can see how far the 1.08 head stuck out

First off im not a master builder and have not built anything in 12 years.
I have started the build with the fuse as im waiting for a wood order but had what i needed to get the fuse started and as one should expect there are a couple minor problems but nothing major.
I'm using the plans downloaded from Outerzone made by Wizardofflight and the short kit was cut by Balsa Workbench.
The PDF by Wizardofflight seem excellent and are very close to the same as the original. I had to tile print the original so probably a small variance there and with using three different sources things are going to very for sure between his PDF the DXF parts are cut from and my tile printing the original.
Anyway here is the first problem. Minor but still a problem.
The Tabs on the top and bottom part of the fuse that lock into the sides are off a little so a little trimming is needed to make them key together and it seems to be a little to long. It seems to grow in length from the center back so im going to line everything up from the fuse center running forward and back.
So here are some pics to show what im talking about.

Sorry about the mismatch I'll go back through the plans, it kind of looks like a scaling issue that I'll have to correct.

No problem. To late for me but i can deal with it and it will help others in the future. With out you doing the work you have done the plane would probably fade away. Being such a great flier that would be a shame!
Thanks for investing the time to save it.

Default CG Extra

Been hanging here since 2012, the last time I moved. It’s mostly done, set up for an OS120 fs, ready to cover. The rest of the pieces are in the box buried in the attic some where.
Just cut those tabs a bit and do some corrective sanding and you’re good.

I started my Extra in 1993.
I had a lot going on around that time, then moved three or four times and it seems to have fallen out of my building queue.
i plan on finishing it eventually, but for now it’s the king of the, how long has your build been going joke in my shop. Lol!

So this is about as far as i gonna get till next weekend.
Another minor problem: Former "B" is not notched on the sides to key into the fuse side doubler.
Here are some pics showing today's progress.

Don't feel bad, I have had actual production kits where the parts didn't line up like that.

I don't feel bad. Just minor little things that are easily fixed. Wizardofflight asked for feed back on the plans so more letting him know.
