I've been considering the Great Planes kit (not ARF), although I've thought about buying the World's Models ARF. This will be my first "kit" if I go with the Great Planes Cub. I am torn between the "cost effectiveniss" of the ARF, and the Pride and feeling of self accomplishment of building the kit. This would be my first kit if I go with the Great Planes model. Would this be a good first kit? Your 2 cents would be greatly appreciated!!

If a Cub is going to be your first building experience, I whole heartedly recommend Great Planes. Their photo illustrated, step-by-step instructions and plans are second to none! Get it! Build it! You'll LOVE it!

PS. Build the clipped wing version! The full wing IMHO is way too much wing for this airplane. With the clipped wing, it will still float like a trainer, but it will be capable of some awesome aerobatics!

I'm about 1/3rd the way through Sig's new 1/5th scale cub - lot - no ALL laser cut...pretty fast construction so far. Part fit is excellent and instructions typical Sig quality. I haven't built the GP version so I can't give a true comparison, but give the Sig a look. And yes, it can be built standard clipped wing style.

I have a student that is learning to fly using the Great Planes 40 size cub. He has an OS 40 4 cycle on it and it is one sweet flying plane. It looks to build just as all the Great Planes kits do. Good Luck, Dave

Thanks for all the great information!! I've been flying an Avistar for about three months, and I'm just ready for something new. I'm really into the scale aspect of things. As for a sport plane, I'm nearly set on the Somethin' Extra. Based on all your great info, I think I'll go with the GP Cub.
