RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Kool Deal, I have been slacking too, only because I spent all my squirrel and plane $$$ on Christmas. Most of the stuff I need to do is BUY the stuff. [:@]
Wing is pretty much ready to cover, entire rear of the plane is ready to cover as well. Maybe in a week I can snap back to it.
Nice work, post some pics!

Alright!! Here's some pics of the tank and associated plumbing.
I'm using the Sullivan fill and drain system. So, you can see where the aluminum fill ports go through the side of the fuse.
I'm using a 3-line system here. Line 1 is the clunk. Line 2 is the fill/drain. And line 3 is my vent.
I am using 2 clunks in each tank. Obviously, the main clunk is line 1 which feeds the carb. The second clunk is on line 2. This line enters the tank and then makes a hard 90* bend towards the bottom of the front of the tank. There is a short piece of tygon on this line with a clunk. This line is just there to put fuel in and take it out. The clunk will never move around--it's just there, in the front of the tank, to keep the tygon pointing straight down.
My vent line comes out of the tank and then runs back up and around the back of the tank. Then it goes back forward to the bottom of the fues and exits just in front of the landing gear block.
The reason why the vent lines run backwards and around the back of the tanks is as follows:
If the tanks are full, and the plane should happen to get tipped up on the nose while inspecting or servicing it on the bench, the fuel cannot escape and run out all over the bench. For the fuel to escape the tanks, it would have to travel uphill, and wrap around the tanks, then go back down. Can't happen. It's a good vent--and you won't loose fuel while flying or servicing the plane on the bench.
Check out the first pic:
I dropped the fuse off my crowded workbench and broke the cheek off the left side. DOH!![>:] Also very obvious in the 3rd pic.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Rcpilet and C-Heath: I've been building instead of surfing as well. Fuse is completely framed up, tail feathers are complete (a variation on a theme from RCpilet). (I used Robart hinges). I didn't care for the joiner wire on the elevator on a plane of this size so I used an elevator belcrank assembly from MK. With the canopu moved back (thanks Cheath!) the rudder and elevators are directly beneith. I used CF pushrods and spent a day "engineering" that installation! I made a hatch behind the firewall for access to the electronics and put the tank on the CG.
The wing is mostly complete and the 2 sections joined but I have to sheet the bottom and hinge for the ailerons. When you're building the wings and fuse, things go pretty fast but when it comes time to start fitting everything inside...it really slows down.
Oh...and I went flying this week as well. We had about 6" of snow in Denver so I put floats on the old Rearwin Speedster and did touch and go's in the snow for the afternoon!
I'll attach some pix of the 4*120 as soon as some are taken...but for now, I've tried to attach a pix of the Speedster.

AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Table looks like mine as well! Stuff everywhere, Heck, I went down stairs tonight I it took me a minute to rethink where I was in the build~!
Keep posting your progress, I have had a few emails of other people that are doing the same as us, just not posting their builds, BUT, they are watching.
We must be doing something right!
I think RC pilet is out flying his~!! Hes getting close!
Great looking Murp and great job, new headrest rules!

Yes there is aome people watching this build me for one as I want to build one of these beauties.Makes me want to sell my Venture and get one to build as a winter project.I have built many of the sig kits and find them a very nice build and easy to add mods too, they also fly great.I had a 4*60 that would practically land itself just line it up with the runway and ease back the throttle and down it came.Keep up the good work can't wait to see it finished.

Yes I know,I even got a 91 GK and an extra set of ribs so I could cut the front part off them and put them between the reg ribs to keep the covering from sagging on the leading edge, got the real nice tail wheel and pants along with the dual airlon mounts and a big fuel tank, fiberglass landing mount.Just got to finish a tele 40 first, with the holidays here too much time away from the bench.I am trying to go bigger,I'll get there yet.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
I've attached a few pictures of my progress so far.
Power is an Evolution 26cc gasser with 16X8 Bambola prop.
The wing is framed up and ready to be fir to the fuse. Most of the fus stuff is complete.
More as progress is made.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Don't think I'll bounce that much...my typical landing sheers off the gear, breaks the prop and slided down the runway grinding off the covering from the bottom of the fuselage!
Just hope that pipe doesn't get scratched!

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Will you cover with iron on film or fabric? If film, painting the red seems more do able than trying to apply film. Across the top of the wing, there isn't any flat area, it's mostly compound curves, sepecially the area between the ribs. If you're using fabric, it's simply a lot of masking...but that's all part of the fun of painting! Just make sure you aren't wearing 3-D glasses when flying!
My friend that drives the big brown truck is stopping by today with some film from Tower. I'll use a more traditional color scheme. I'm hoping to maiden this bird on or about Jan 1. What's your schedule look like?

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Been following along here to guy's. Finally got my 120 in the mail and have half the wing built.
Man am I slow .Question for C Heath. Did you follow along with RC Pilet and beef up the wing ? What are you guy's using for servo's? The kit calls for a bit stronger ones than standard servo's but the torque is so close is it worth spending the extra money. I did some checkin around to make the conversion engine here in Canada , figured by the time you get everything here with duties and frieght the cost is so close to the price of a smooooth runnin Saito 150 that the Saito wins.
RC Pilet lets see some more pics!!

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
Well, while you've been sanding and eating Christmas cookies, I've been building a bit. I made a fuse filler block to cover the gap behind F-2. I used ready made servo hatches from J&B. Also, a picture of the wing tip braces. Lastly, I painted the cockpit floor. I've installed all of the hardware for a trial fit except the aileron hinges and servo linkage, but that's next. I decided to cover it with monokote. Cream, dark blue and light blue...pretty much along the lines of every plane I've ever done...it's been a long rut! Now for a few Christmas cookies!

Kenj: Saito 150 is a GREAT choice for glow power! "Hey...that thing got a HEMI ! I'm using Hitech HS-635BB throughout except for the thottle and that's just a standrard.
I found the wing ridged enough without the braces RC Pilet used...but it's preference more than anything else.
Here's a pix of the servo hatch and mounting.

I'm only working on it about 15 or 20 minutes per day.
I'm currently installing the smoke pump--battery--switch--and charge jack. The ignition system is next. Trying to cram all this stuff up in the front is quite furstrating. I could just slap it all in there--but I want it too look clean and be functional. It just takes me a little more time than it probably should.
Right now--I have the holes cut in the side of the fuse for my switches and charge jacks.
It's so darn tight up in the front. I basically have to install the switches and charge jacks 1 time--and then take them out. I have to cut a little 1" square piece of monokote and iron it on over the hole where the jacks and switches are. Then cut out the holes and re-install the switches and jacks.
The switches and jacks will stay in place when covering the plane. I don't want to remove the switches and then cover it. Then install the switches again and risk screwing up the covering if I drop the plane or slip with a screwdriver.
I'm probably making it harder than it is--but I just don't want to be assembling these electronics 5 times and keep taking them out and putting them back in. They are going in--and they are staying in.
It's just tedious and time consuming to get it designed right and installed right the first time. It's gotta work--and it's gotta look good too. Not much room.
