Default COWLING SOMETHIN' EXTRA

I have a Somethin Extra that I want to mount the engine sideways to help get the carb spraybar centered with tank centerline. I want to make a built up cowl for this plane and I was wondering if anyone else had done this. If you have cowled the SIG Somethin' Extra, 4 Star, etc. please post some suggestions or pictures.

yel914,

Glad you posted those pics of yours. I couldn't find the link from the other thread you posted in even though I had saved the pics. I had not seen the right side before and it looks even better than the other shots I've seen. Excellent job!

I haven't finished it yet, but I am using a built-up approach patterned after [email protected] for my Saito .72.

Thanks for all the responses. The SE looks great with a cowl and I know the ening will run much better mounted sideways as my carb spray bar on os 46/61 comes to top of tank. This leaves no way to get a consistent needle valve setting through the entire flight regardless of what you do. I will tackle this project in the coming weeks.

I am thinking of going back to my OS 46 to power on this ship. I like the performance of the 61FX but it is a tad heavy. I feel the 46 will pull this plane fast enough for sport flying besides I want to see just how much fuel it will take to wear the engine out. Now I have about 30 gallons through her and she hasn't been pampered at all. I will say though the compressin is not what it use to be.

Maybe you can get a little more power out of it with a Tower muffler.
