Your plane looks great! I really like the way you used the colors.

I built my Chipmunk about two years ago. I power it with a OS61FX engine. It flys very well, does great snaps and spins.

I've got a Goldberg Super Chipmunk kit and I'm trying to decide if I should build it for my second plane or build a Sig Four Star 60. The Four Star was recommended by my instructor, but I 1. already have a Chipmunk and 2. I reall like the looks of the Chipmunk.
Is it going to be to much to handle for a second plane by a not very good pilot, or should I go with the four star??

I think as long as you keep the throws per the instructions you should be fine. I would tell you that you will be increasing the throws rather quickly, as the Chipmunk is really very easy to fly.

Hi all-
Maiden flight of my CG chipmunk was this past weekend. It was a relatively windy day and I noticed there was some slight shimmy in the yaw direction on high speed passes. Anyone else experience this? The rudder linkage is not as stiff as I would prefer (used the nylon push rods). I'm wondering if I should retrofit to a pull-pull system. Any thoughts?
I also need to diagnose a fuel issue. Seems the engine (OS61FX) would die during the last 90-degrees of an outside loop. (First 270-degrees of the outside loop = no problem). Hmmm.
Other than that, it flew great. Hardy any trim adjustments necessary.

I would replace the pushrod with a pull-pull system. I bet if you do this you will not have that yaw problem anymore.

also i notice that i have a bit of "rudder shim" while flying in windy conditions. could have been the wind if it was blowing hard enough.

Ok, I finally got some time to post up the latest pictures.
I don't know if I mentioned this before, but if I did, I'm saying it again anyway!
I wasn't happy with the way the ribs fit on the first wing panel I built. So, I called Carl Goldberg and had them send me the parts for another wing panel. I got that in a couple of weeks ago, and just got to work on it the other night. I went ahead and set up my table so I could work on both wing panels at the same time. I've gotten most of the work done. Today I'm getting the sheeting on top done as well as mounting the landing gear supports and blocks. I also hope to get the hingepoint supports in as well.
If you notice, I left the landing gear supports out this time. I think it will be easier to get them a perfect fit after the sheeting is attached. Once it all dries, I will be easily able to make the cutout from the inner side of the sheeting, and I can then easily trim it to fit around the LG supports. The way the manual has you do it is to make some measurements of where the support will be, then cut a hole, then put the sheeting on. A bit less accurate than I would prefer, and much more of a hassle.
You can see on the LE sheeting that I use a lot of clamps and a lot of tape. Once I get the front and back of a particular piece of sheeting attached (this only refers to a curved surface), usually with tape and/or clamps, and oftentimes medium CA, I'll put the parts under weight. I get a piece of MDF that runs the entire length of the wing panel, and set it at the midpoint between the front and back edges of the sheeting. The reason for doing this is sometimes, when bending the balsa and taping/clamping it into place, the middle will bulge up a bit. Putting the weight right in the middle solves this and makes for a nice, even curve along the top of the ribs. If you notice the clamps are not on the back edge of the sheeting. The tape is enough to hold that part of the sheeting on, and since the ribs won't fit undernear the piece of MDF, I took them off.
I finished the vertical stab and rudder, and only have to shape, sand and hinge the horizontal stab and elevator. None of the hinges are glued in yet. I'm very pleased with the way the tail section is coming together. Probably because I cut all the pieces to fit myself. I am a bit less happy about the wing panel, though if you think about what you are doing you can easily work around the ill-fitting parts.

Yeah I think so. There seems to be a little stain left, but the smell of oil is gone and it feels just fine.
How is the Skybolt coming? It will be ready for Sunday, yes? [8D]

Maybe about the time I can get back out to Wren you'll have it ready to go. I might even be have this Chipmunk ready by then. I didn't get as much done on it today as I would have liked, but I hope to make up for it over the next couple of weeks.

oh yea, that 300S i was telling you about, i told you wrong. it's a great planes KIT .90 size, motor from .91 to 1.20
i'm planning on going over there tuesday afternoon for a few snapshots and then i'll send them to you.

I have a friend who's just started building the Chipmunk..He's going with dual aileron servo's, any information regarding the dual servo's on this plane will be helpfull..

When I built mine I just used the stock hardware and the bellcrank for the ailerons. I did put the flaps on it and I just used the Hitec 6 channel radio with 5 heavy duty servos that came with the Radio. Why are you changing everthing and beefing it up? Mine does great the way I built it right from the instructions.

At this point, due to some time constraints and the fact I just destroyed another plane (and I want to get started on my Extra
), I will probably be cutting back a bit on the mods. I will be using two aileron servos, and I'm still using carbon fiber pushrods etc., but I'm not sure if I'll be using the ABS wingtips and fairings. I'm going to be ****ing my Saito .91 into it instead of the 1.00, and probably staying with the stock muffler.
The main reason for doing these things is to make the plane fly more precisely. I am not really pleased with a lot of the stock hardware provided.
Pictures are definitely a must!
