Default new trainer - old builder

G'day all, need advice on what would be a good trainer (kit) for flying, the build is not a problem, been modeling for many years, but haven't flown in over 30 years

Sig LT-40. Great building trainer. And flies like a dream. You won't go wrong.

Hope this helps

In addition to the LT-40, You may want to look at the SIG Kadet/Signorita and if you are interested in a taildragger, the Telemaster http://www.hobby-lobby.com/tel40gas.htm

I have seen the Telemaster fly and actually watched the person line the plane up with the runway, put the engine to idle, then put the transmitter down on the ground as he said "Watch this. Automatic landing".

I expcected the plane to crash as he was about 300' out and up about 45 - 50'. The plane ACTUALLY LANDED IT SELF WITH NO ONE AT THE CONTROLS. If I hadn't seen it I would not have believed it.

(I know, I know, not safe flying. We were the only 2 people at the field and the closest building/house is 1/2 mile away, so I didn't say anything. )

Ditto on the Sig LT-40. Very stable, easy to fly and a good quality kit. I've taught a lot of new recruits how to fly on that airplane and have met with a lot of success due to the flying qualities.

my 2 cents worth...

Also check out the Sig LT-25. Its actually the size of most 40 size planes and flys like a dream. I soloed my first day at the field with it and have since put many many flights on it.

Hey Buz2AU, I think you'll be happy with this plane. I have had one for 3 years and it flies great. Because though it is allot bigger than most .40 size airplanes (looks allot like a .60 size trainer) you might want to reconsider the engine. When I first bought mine I put a TT .40 on it and I didn't like how it flew. The plane always seem to look like it was struggling to stay in the air. (One note is that my plane was a little tail heavy. I've asked others wither or not there plane was that way too and only a couple said this was true with theres as well). I then put a Supre Tiger .45 on it and it flew fantastic. The engine was a little heavier than most .46's so it balanced the plane out pretty well and according to the police officer that clocked it with his radar gun, I got 75 miles an hour out of it I was able to perform allot more advanced maneuvers with it that I don't believe I could've with the .40 size engine. Have fun.

Brett
