MosquitoBite "Robin" build

It was Ronald Reagan’s favorite joke. Worried that their son was too optimistic, the parents of a little boy took him to a psychiatrist. Trying to dampen the boy’s spirits, the psychiatrist showed him into a room piled high with nothing but horse manure. Yet instead of displaying distaste, the little boy clambered to the top of the pile, dropped to all fours, and began digging.
“What do you think you’re doing?” the psychiatrist asked.
“With all this manure,” the little boy replied, beaming, “there must be a pony in here somewhere.”
After two weeks or so working on this plane, I can paraphrase this old joke. I know there must be a Robin in here somewhere

Today I maidened my Robin. No issues whatsoever. The weather was good and winds light. Takeoffs and landings very docile. It is lightly wing loaded so I would imaging strong cross winds could be a challenge, as with any tail dragger. All takeoffs today were no flap. No flap takeoffs are very short. I gradually come in with the power as I concentrate on keeping the plane straight down the runway. She was always airborne in 20' to 40' at about half power. Landings were done with no flaps and 1/2 flaps. Next time up will try full flaps. Stalls were just a change in flight path trajectory. The plane stays level but travels more vertically(down) than horizontally. All in all a very uneventful day.

Outstanding! Good looking plane..
Got an email from Ken, Robin is on the way! Have a large Telemaster with flaps, thinking it shouldn't be a great deal different. This summer is going to be fun!

Hi
I am building an enlarged 80" Robin, by Mosquito plans.
but, on plans there is no note about engine down - right trust
Du you remember if in the kit mentioned about this issue ?
Thanks in advance.

The engine thrust line should already be built into the plans, you may not notice it cuz it's very slight but it is built into the plans. If you follow the plans you should be able to just Mount your motor and be ready to go.

Really great reading all the information you guys have provided! I still have my MBP Robin kit tucked away as an ambition to which my building & flying skills have to catch up to. It is a joy just to look at the kit quality and all the details. I will incorporate many of the ideas I have read, here.

awolmodel,
I've had the Robin on my short list too but never knew there was a kit out for it. Do you know if MosquitoByte might still be around with kits??? I didn't find any reference to them on the web. A kit would sure make life easier. I have too many irons in the fire to make the time to hand cut a kit...
Thanks,
Bob

Awol, thanks for that. I thought I had a set of the plans but I don't. I just picked up that set of plans.
Now I'm on the lookout for the May 200 issue of MAN that had the original article on it. so far, no luck on Outerzone or AeroFred. I can't even find an old issue online... I wonder if I have a copy in my stash? I'll have to check.
Thanks for the heads-up,
Bob

Hi guys,
Thanks for the offer on the plans but that shouldn't be necessary. I just got a notice from the USPS that mine should be here on Friday. I bought them on eBay from a site in Maryland.
I downloaded the builders manual from OuterZone but not the Revised manual, so thanks for that. I'll check it out to see the differences.
I still haven't been able to see if I have the May 2000 issue of MAN for the Construction article but that must have been a really good issue for some reason. I can find all of the other months for the year 2000 on eBay back issues, but none for May. I'd sure like to score that article. If I find it, I will make a copy of it and post it here. I never thought to go to the MAN website to see if they would have a download available, but I think that they won't.
Thanks for the offers guys...
