I have a question of CarlGoldberg Super Chipmunk. The specs of this plane indicate the recomended engine size of 46 to 61 2-stroke, but I have a Irvine 72, so can I use this engine for this plane? Will it be overpowered or overweight or cg problems?

you shouldnt have any problems flying it with that but your verticle may be challenged.
I'm going to install a new YS 91 on the one i'm building to go for unlimited verticle or at least close to it.
let me know how it works out for you.

I would STRONGLY suggest that you not waste your beautiful efforts on anything less than an 0.91 class engine (4S that is). Remember, this is an aerobatic aircraft. I think you will be very disappointed if you underpower the Chippie.
I wrote a review on this kit for Howard Sullivan's web site. Check it out. Happy to answer any questions for you.
You're gonna love it! Also, build it with the flaps option. You can "hover" into a 5 MPH head wind, and it will land at a slow walk speed with 30 degrees flaps.

heck, I put a ST90 2 stroke on mine, with a pitts muffler, had to cut a bit of cowl off but man is it overpowered!! I love it, actually fuel lasts longer because not at full throttle all the time!! The flaps are fun, not needed but fun. also, get rid of the bellcrank ailerons and put one servo on each aileron in the wing.

Several important comments have been made thus far.
1) John made a great point. This is an aerobat. Use one servo for each aileron. There is plenty room to mount your favorite brand in each wing half.
2) John is also correct. You don't have to have the flaps for fun, or for landing. But they sure are a real nice extra for additional fun in an already exciting aircraft.
3) Engine, engine, engine. You do want power and performance. It really helps not having to fly at full throttle all the time - to get that good upline, or that outside loop, etc.
4) My apologies for not being complete with the first posted reply. The URL for Howard Sullivan's web site is http://webpages.charter.net/rcfu/. This is a great site for kit reviews.
5) Smoke is awesome on the Chippie. You can get really decent smoke with OS 0.91 FS (it's magnificent with the YS engines!) and the TME Simple Smoke System II. Little weight penalty and PLENTY of spacious room inside to mount the pump and tank over the CG!!
FCC, you're gonna love this plane!

Thanks guys for these nice comments.
I think there is a lot of margin for engine size and my Irvive 72 will work great. In my opinion there should always be some extra power on hand... even if you are not using it.
Yes I am going to install separate servo for each aileron. I am not using flaps.

I like this site and often use it to get some help.
One more question, how is the gliding capability of this plane at idle and overall control handling as this is going to be my third plane. I have bought this kit from a friend for $150, so is it worth while..?
Any other suggestions/comments for this plane/kit are welcome.

You will love this combo. These are a baby to land and with that motor you will have fun. I have a Webra Speed 80 on mine and it will putts around or rocket straight up. I like making a pass over the field slower and slower, flaps down and nose up till it just about falls out of the sky.....then punch it straight up. What fun.

The first time I tried to land the Chippie, I never got more than 6 ft off the deck!!! I figured that it would take a "fly to the surface" landing, akin to an Extra, etc. Wrongo!! This baby glides, and glides, and glides. One thing that you will appreciate in this model is that it is very forgiving, yet agile. If you don't fly for a while, have no fear getting it back into the air. it will serve you just as well as any Sunday sport flyer going.
Ground handling is great, as noted above. Be absolutely certain to bend the landing gear wire forward so that the wheels are forward of the CG. It will nose over in a heart beat if you don't. The manner in which the gear wire came in my kit, it placed the wheels right under the CG. I kept cutting grass until I figured it out.
Also, take a few extra moments to beef up the landing gear torque plate. Again, read about it in the review at Howard Sullivan's site.
If you don't already have one, invest in a $6 long drill bit, or borrow one from a friend. You'll need it to drill the path for the rudder push rod.
It really amazes me. Everyone out there has a CapExtraEdge (sorry guys...). I just don't see the Chippie but rarely. What a shame. I personally would have loved to get my hands on the Ohio R/C Chippmunk before they folded.

Okay I have few more question about kit...
How can I paint the canopy outline curves with white paint, is there any technique for this?
I am planning to use pull pull system on rudder... is this a nice idea?
I don't have the C.G. diagrams so can you guys help me out.
Any other painting and covering techniquesfor sale look are needed as this is my first scale covering.

Have seen my friends chip crash last
weekend!!!!
Powered by an OS 91 fx the plane had plenty of power
however, was constantly banking right and left ....very
sensitive performance ....
Take much care to the center of gravity.....
He had only two unsuccessful flights...!
Will keep you updated...
Cheers

Sorry to hear about that plane... but in my opinion any plane if not properly set, I mean like CG, engine line thrust, trims, control throws... etc. will either be no fun or will crash.
Right now I have some question regarding the kit building.

My Super Chipmunk, ST 61, flaps, flies great, slows down for easy landings. Easy to see in the air. Just an excellent plane. Sorry Picture is too big to post here, you can view it atcommunities.msn.com/PonokaRCFlyers

I just got it this spring at an R/C Auction, so I don't know if the Guy that built it did anything to address the problem. I've heard it's a bit week, but so far This one seems fine. I Guess Maybe My PERFECT landings are the reason......
