might invest in a little plane-wood carving, that is- to whittle down the trailing edge, or could you rig up a fence on your scrollsaw, and cut it with that, make some triangle stock out of it, just an idea, or it may be easier just to sand it down, it is balsa and some rough sandpaper will make short work of it

Yes I should probably get one of those. Anyways how is everything? Are you back from the Desert yet. If so give me a call. If not when are you going to get home? Be safe. Mark

I am sorry I have not posted any updates in a little while. I am almost done with the wing finally. I am taking more time than I should but I like a quality reliable play to fly. I will post those pictures tonight. Thanks for sticking around.

Here are a few pictures of my wing progress. I will finish up the wing this weekend and post some more pictures. This wing is coming along just fine, I have been taking a little more time to make sure things turn out the right way. This planes is a little different than other planes I have built. Been a great time so far other than the shaving of the trailing edges of the wing. I recommend this plane to everyone. Enjoy the photos and feel free to add some criticism. Thanks

Just a hint on the trailing edge for next time.. They're easier to sand before assembly and you avoid posisble damage to the rest of the wing. What I do for trailing edges, is get a piece of piano wire where diameter matches the thickness of the trailing edge at the rib attachment point. You can then either 1) place the trailing edge the distance from end of table that will leave the thicknees needed on the back side or (better option) place a second piece of piano wire the desired thickness. Tape the wires to the table running a piece lengthwside, be sure the tape gets under the wire so it wont move. Then just sand away on a 45 degree angle with a straight block... comes out perfect and consistent along the length and width every time.

Hello first I would like to say I am sorry for the absolutely slow progress. I have been working alot and frankly my shed has been on fire. The San Antonio heat makes my shop about 100 degrees inside. I need to get A/C hooked up in there. Anyways I am almost completely done with the wing. I need to just sand the leading edge and make the aileron servo mounts. Anyways here are some pictures of the wing and the new ailerons.

Me again I was able to get a good hour or two in on the PNP tonight. I started the fuse. I got the sides built and the fuse base together. Tomorrow I will start throwing some epoxy on the fuselage framework. Please again tick around and enjoy. Have a good night.

Looks good so far.If I could make a suggestion. We are building a bunch of PNP's on another forum. One thing a we've found out is Great Planes way over built this thing. However there is a major weekness. The engine mount is too weak. Make sure you reenforce this area. I laminated the area with 1/4 lite ply. Some have cut off the original mount and used after market engine mounts. Whatever you do, be sure to reenforce the areas. One guy completed his, and when he flew it the engine started working loose on him. Good luck.

Todd,

Post some pictures of your projects. How is that Telemaster going? What about that GASSER SPAD you started. People want pictures give us pictures. I am going to give you a call later today.

last couple of days i worked on the Telemaster and as of right now all it needs is radios installed and flight controls hooked up, i modified it to a bolt on wing, flew my ESPA3D today so thats up and running, I need to build new engine mounts for the Debonair and McDDDT thing i built, I was wanting to get 2mm coro for the Gasser, its a 25cc Ultra Spadstick, then I have lots of fishing to catch up on, I was goimg to do a thread on that Telemaster ARF, but I'd rather build than take pictures,

Here are a few pictures of what I was able to get done this weekend. I was able to get the fuse sides and the formers all glued in. I got the stab base mounted in the rear and the engine mount and firewall doublers glued in. After that I started to work on the reinforced wing mount portion of the build. I can tell that I am going to have to add a lot of additional support to make sure my wing doesn't fall off. Anyways enjoy the photos I will keep plugging away at this thing. Please post ideas suggestions of just tell me what you think. Thanks in advance.

Looks good. If you follow all the instruction on the wing mount, you wont have any issues. Its really pretty secure.Just make sure to re enforce the engine mount.

Cool. I will definitely add an extra layer of plywood for the engine mount. I would hate for the engine to fall off. Thanks for the advice.

all right mark, got my electric spad done, my 3D Spad is done, and my Telemaster is done, I will make a write up about it in the ARF place after I fly it with all the mods I did on it, and after I get it programed, All I need to do now is build a engine mount for the Deb, and I found a good way to that, so how far have you got on that plane of yours....

Just kidding I know you have to work and I am on my goof off time

There is a thread on rcgroups in the fuel plane talk section. The guys wing flew off on maiden. He was cursing the way the struts mount to the fuse. you might want to take a look

The problem is not the way the struts mount to the fuse, but the way the wing hold-down plates mount to the top of the struts. See post #15 of this thread. I am one of the victims of this poor design. But my plane was repaired. and I fixed the problem with the simple addition of four screws through the struts into the wing hold-down plates.

See this thread: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=2244813]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=2244813[/link]

My plane has been back in the air now for 3 full seasons, doing every manuever she'll do, and no more problems.

Hello,

I made a little progress last night. I was able to get the landing gear mount mounted. I did not really feel that it was beefed up enough for the occasional rough landing, so I added some additional support. I took some balsa and added a thin layer of lite ply and epoxied them to both sides. Added a little weight but i rather have a little weight than having to rebuild it. Just for the record (NOT THAT I CRASH A LOT) right Todd. I also added the wing cabane strut mounts( i think that is what it is called). I really dont like the way that is either but oh well it should be OK. I also got the push rods installed and used epoxy mixed with microballons for that, think it turned out good. Last but not least I too everyones suggestions and added an additional 1/8 in plywood piece to the engine mount. I used the pattern and my scroll saw and hooked it up. The only problem is as use can tell in the picture that the mounts stick out farther than the fuse sides. I have noticed that it is like that in the manual but not in the plans. Anyways it looks stupid when I mount the engine I am going to see if I can trim it down in front. Anyways I have been reinforcing the areas that need to be reinforced and plugging away. Oh yeah the tank floor is installed. Later I am going to add the access panels and the fuse base with sheet balsa. !!!!! ONE QUESTION THOUGH !!!! Has anyone used the static wing struts as actual supports build in that bolt on? I would like to but just curious if anyone has tried this. Have a good week. Mark
