My wife asked me that question this evening, and it got me wondering, how many kits do other builders have around that they are planning to build, but haven't started yet? Right now, I'm working on a SSE, got one wing built. Under the bench I've got a Super Skybolt kit waiting on me, and I just heard back from the kit cutter that he recieved the plans I sent him, and he'll have the cut parts back to me in a couple weeks. The way I build, I'll be lucky to have the other wing built by then. Oh, I also just picked up a new BARF kit tonight, just something to have fun with while I'm building. I had a Big Stick, but it suffered an unfortunate accident in the hangar a couple weeks ago, so I had to replace it. ARF's are great for getting in the air quickly, and I don't feel so bad if I lose one. I still prefer building kits, but I build slow and I like to fly in between building sessions, so I always try to keep one on hand. I bought the new Great Planes Escapade. It looks like it'll be a fun plane.

I have 12 kits and 9 sets of plans, 2 kits being built now, an Ultimate bipe 120 size and a 2.5m glider. I dont like to build till I have miost if not all the electronics and hardware, and being on a disabilty payment slows down stocking up. Also living out in the country the nearest hobby shop is over 200 miles away and they sell mainly cars/buggy's and park flyers so all my shopping is online. I am waiting on a big parcel of goodies to come, which will get these 2 finished, and my next glider (156"ws) and a 92" hurricane started

Not sure of the current count, but a quick guess would be about 40-45. As I started to read the writing on wall that kits were getting more scarce I started buying kits when I see them. If it's something that I possibly think I'll be interested in building later on down the road I'll buy it and stash it away.

I just finished a Sterling "Real Sporty" Formula One racer, and brought it out to the field for the first time last weekend.
I'm almost finished a scratch-built control line plane; just needs some covering, and I'm working on a Sig Smith Miniplane.
On the shelf waiting:
Coverite Gee Bee model D
House of Balsa .40 size Extra 300
House of Balsa Shoestring
Dare Shoestring
Dumas Waco YMF-5
Probably about a dozen sets of plans
Looking for a Lanier 1/4 scale Laser.

Zero. Bare in mind that I don't build sport models, which represent probably 90% all kits out there. And of the scale kits I prefer, I typically spend at least a year and often longer building one. So it doesn't make too much sense to stock up. In terms of scale kits of my beloved WWI models, I'd say that new kits come to the market with about the same frequency as kits leave the market. I'd be surprised if there are actually more than a dozen WWI kits I really want anyway.
PS. Sparky, that "question" was in all likelihood in reality a "complaint." In other words, when she asked "how many do you have" what she was really doing is saying "too many!"

I have two unbuilt; or, uncompleted. A Balsa USA 1/4th scale Neiuport 28 framed up and a Davey Systems 1/5th scale Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser still in the box. It's been my policy to try to build one at a time and my interests change so regularly, having kits in stock is senseless. You guys with the huge stockpiles are hording them from the rest of us. When you kick, the wife will sell them for pennys on the dollar.
I'm also of the opinion there are more builders out there then the market understands.

I am like RCKen, kits are getting hard to find, so yes I am hording them. I have about 60 on my shelf. As we speak, I am building a Tiger 60 Deluxe, finishing up a scratch built L-19 and just got the plans yesterday to scratch build a Junkers JU 52, which are being copied as we speak so I can get my word ordered. Good Luck, Dave

24 RC kits, about 45 RC plan sets and and HUNDREDS of downloaded rubber powered aircraft plans (Just for the fun of it!), 16 ship model kits, 127 plastic models,.....dat's it!
Oh...and a scratch build Astro-Hog and a House of Balsa Pietenpol on the building board, and an ACE 4-40 ready to cover!
And one ARF

Well.. That's an easy answer... No counting is needed....
The answer is..... "not enough".
And if you're in a really confrontational mood... If you actually like sleeping on the couch you could answer "fewer than the shoes/purses you have."
But to answer your question more accurately....
I've got about a dozen:
Kits:
1 SSE,
2 GP US60s
1 GP Supersporster 40 (gonna make this one a twin engine)
1 Senior Telemaster (Hobby Lobby)
1 Sig MiniBipe
1 Sig Hog Bipe
1 Mid-star 40
1 4*40
1 4*60
1 GP Tracer
1 Sterling Sterman
1 Dare B-17
1 Dare Wright Military Flyer
Short Kits: (from Lazerworks)
1 Senior Telemaster
2 DAS Ugly stik
2 FSW-3
2 Sweepee
ARFs
2 Long EZs
1 .40 Pitts (NitroModels)
1 Bobcat pusher (NitroModels)
1 SSE
Uncompleted kits/rebuilds.
1 Sterling Sterman,
1 SIG Ryan STA
1 GP 40 sizes J-3 Cub
1 GP US60
1 Senior Telemaster (Lazerworks)
At least.. That's what I can remember... off the top of my head....

My sickness is as follows:
1. Royal .40 Bleriot w/wire wheels
2. Sig Yak 18
3. Pilot 1/5th PT-19
4. Sig Demoselle
5. Goldberg Senior Falcon ARF
6. GP GEE BEE
7. Tritle Curtiss Jenny
8. Tritle Aeronca Champ (under construction)
9. Sanwa Vari Viggen (bought in Japan in 1989) (under construction for 20 years...decided to convert to electric)
10. Ziroli PT-17 (started 10 years ago now on indefinite hold)
11. GP Ryan STM (under kit bashing to chrome fuse/silver wings, flying wires, converting to electric)
12. Adrian Page Gee Bee Z (framed up and holding... might just hang it up uncovered)
13. Top Flight Stinson SR-9...maybe some day convert to the SR-8 which is nicer looking IMHO.
14. Byron Pitts Special
Kits needed before they go OOP: Concept Models 1/6th Fleet Bipe, GP Super Stearman ARF.
I am not lazy just too, too busy! I was doing pretty well at getting some of my long term projects buttoned up until I was blessed with a new baby last year. I have decided to just chill out and enjoy my baby girl first and my hobby when I can...it's not a race.

Let me think a minute,
Kits
(1) TF Gold Edition Corsair
(1) Supersportster 120
(2) Ultrasport 60's (One for a backup that I may convert to a twin)
(1) Dirty Birdy 60 size from Blue Jay
(1) Sig King Kobra 60 size
(1) Golrberg Ultimate 10-300 60 size
(1) Greatplanes Super Skybolt 60 size
(1) Sig Super Skybolt 60 size
Planes waiting to be refurbished
82"? Midwest Extra 300 with 3W60 - Needs to be recovered
84" Lanier Cap232 ARF - Needs to be recovered
Great Planes Aeromaster 60 size - Need to be slightly modified and recovered.
I only have one ARF under construction. It's a Hangar 9 Miss America (My all time favorite ARF) Its going to be powered by a YS110 with Lado electric retracts and a Keleo scale exhaust. Check out my thread in the ARF & RTF Forum labeled "Bye Bye Miss America".
That's it (I think).....
I screwed up on my list. I am flying my Sig Komet. The kit I have is tha Sig King Kobra 60 size...oops

I "only" have about 14 RC kits, mostly out of production or soon will be. Most are giant scale and take up a great deal of room which has slowed their accumulation in recent years. We don't have basements in Texas and that attic is 426 degrees in the summer so its out too. On the other hand, my collection of resin/metal sports car kits is still growing. I can fit 40+ cars in the same space as one TopFlite Stinson box.
