Ace 25% Extra 230 Build
Well I am going to try and document this build here and hope for the best. First thread for me but not first build. Got about 30 years in this hobby and I still cant get enough of it. Funny thing is, here I am going to build a 20 year old kit and sitting in the garage I still have multiple ARFs still in the box. What can I say, nothing like the smell of balsa and CA in the evening!
So here we go.
This is an Ace 25% Extra 230 kit that I picked up from EBay a few months ago. Perfect shape except a few scrapes on the corner of the foam core. Easy fix. Plane will be powered with an ASP 108 with Bisson Pitts muffler, Spektrum radio with Hitec 645 servos. Finish will be Monokote (don't know the color yet)
Here is the picture of the plane and plans

RE: Ace 25% Extra 230 Build
I built the 33% version back 1992 or there-a-bouts. Had Quardra 50 with bryron Purr-Power Muffler, was a nice plane. Somewhat heavy by today's standards. 1/8" ply spars and fuselage sides. If the 25% is designed the same, might consider some lite ply substitutes. Number 1's life ended when I pushed the stick the wrong way, I can still remember walking across the field and another pilot yelled out "What happen?" I replied "Pushed the stick the wrong way", his reply was"Well you're the first to admit it!"
I built a second model from the plans and used 1 1/2" wing tube, lite ply sides, eliminated plywood spars. It's life was shorten by electrical failure, I was using shielded wires on the ailerons, the positive rubbed into the grounded shield.
Have fun with your build, I'm keeping an eye out for more photos.

Glued on the main and sub spars to the wing. Used West System epoxy. tonigh I will attach the the rest of the foam blocks to the wing.
Next will be the sheeting.

Sheeted the wings and constructed the horizontal stab and elevators this week end. I will be using Robart hinge point on all surfaces.
Next I will need to trim the wing sheeting add the leading and trailing edge and cut the ailerons.

Looks just like the 33%, you are making great progress. I still have the shorten 3/16" drill bit I used for drilling the holes in the spars while setting the wings, brings back good memories.

RE: Ace 25% Extra 230 Build
Thank you Tony. I did build the 33% as well back in 1995. Had a G62 with Benett smoke system. I sold it about 10 years ago. It was a great IMAC platform.
I am building this one for IMAC also but more for fun. It will be nice to see a 230 these days in the middle of 100s of Yaks and Edges.

JHays, nice build, keep up the good work. I know you already have the engine for it, but you might nevertheless consider a little more power so that the up-lines can be a little longer in your IMAC sequences. I have the OS 120 AX in a 10.75 lbs Goldberg Bucker and it powers the plane very well at that weight. It also runs great on cheap 5 or 10 % nitro fuel.

Thanks for the advice LuvBipes. More power is always a good thing. I already have the same engine in a 1/4 laser 200 Lanier and it does very well.
I build light!
I noticed you are from Luxemburg. Nice country. I was born and raised in Liege, Belgium.
Thanks
