I will enjoy watching your build. I like many others have an unfinnished sta project and recieve much motivation and ideals from build treads like yours.
Thanks for sharing. Currently building 1/4 sta from blown up sig plans.

ORIGINAL: ARUP
Having opening or removable cowl panels would be pretty slick! Take your glass cowl and paint it up without drilling holes in it. Then (carnuba) wax it a few times, spray a few coats of PVA on it then glass over the panels you wish to have 'functioning'. What this does is allow you to make new subsections of your cowl from the mold you just created! Take your new mold, wax it a few times and spray PVA on it a few times. Now lay down your glass for the replacement parts you will need.

Here's what the builder of this 25% Fred Reese kit did.

Thanks for the great interest in this build.
Unfortunately, just for here, I am going to embark on another project to get someone in the air.
I will build another kit mirror ;where I utilize the kit as a template and "scap" build a plane.
This thread is not done but due to my limited available spare time I want to assist a fellow flier get some wings in the air...
Keep looking, this will resume in spring.

My apologies to all those Ryan fans, I have been striving to keep up with the necessity of work (it pays for this stuff).
As soon as there is time to play I will most certainly resume my efforts to complete this project.

Hi to sll the followers of this thread, It's great to see that there is activity on this rare plane. I have just bagged a Sig version on ebay and am very much looking forward to joining you on the pleasant path to the sky. To start the ball rolling on my side, can anyone tell me if the laser 80fs is going to be man enough for this project? The suggestion is 80fs - 91fs any advice would be welcome.
Just on the final throws of my Smith Mini plane so it won't be long before plans are on the bench. Great build JWH keep it coming.

And so i have resumed my work on this project, the pace is slowly gaining momentum after leaving this build for so long.
I am currently working out the logistics for the control surfaces in the wing. I hope to incorporate individual servo points
for both the flaps and ailerons. My intentions are to apply a scale appearance and also have precision movement too.
Will post photos as soon as I can.

This has been a very tough couple of weeks, have been ill and out of commission. Slowly got to my feet, the best part is that it has given me some time to do some work
on this build and actually enjoy my time. I did some work on the tail gear and the fuse. You can see by the photos it doesnt seem like much, it is however, progress.
I plan to use carbon fiber control rods for the elevator and possibly the rudder. I havent made up my mind on the option of pull-pull for rudder control. I would like
to try to keep the control horns under the plastic that covers the tail end of this kit if possible. I also plan to do some cockpit detail, this will be my first attempt at a scale
cockpit so this will most likely go a little slow. I am reall getting excited again about this build...

I am glad to see you back at work on it! I too am watching this thread with interest. I am looking for one of these kits - I always wanted to build one.
I see one for sale here in the classifieds but it is almost twice what a nice one sold for in December, so I will keep watching.
I did see your scratch build of the GP Aeromaster and soon afterward saw one for sale and grabbed it. Look for a build thread I am going to start.

Truggin along on the tail section as these photos can show. I am prepping the fin and rudder to mount onto the fuse.
the control rods for the tail section are started and I'll most likely use carbon fiber rods linking the rudder and
elevator. I am also setting up the flap control rods using wood dowls and belcrank system. This should be enough for
this application, I will make the parts accessable for maintenance if its needed. The ailerons are going to utilize
individual servos for thier operation.

how are you doing all your neat gussets on the wing & tail? do you have a quick method?

I'm not sure about a real quick way to do it. My method is to use some scrap sheet and cut
strips along the grain then make 45 degree cuts with a miter saw, then fit each one and file
the curve using files. The files are copper, aluminum, heavy paper, and other various tube
type material with sand paper glued to it.

Thanks for all the interest...
I am doing some of the plastic work and primary assembly of the flying wires and their corresponding mounts.
I have been struggling with several ideas and have settled on one(so far), I have started a couple of different
styles and may change again, cash is real tight for now so I am limited to hand fabricating most of my details.
My current solution is for one side of the fly wire to be static using two sizes of brass tubes and making the turn buckles
at one end. The other will use some brass tube and some thread stock with a dremel shaped computer motherboard
standoffs as the treaded turn buckle to allow for minor adjustments. Lots of work!
I don't have a lot of experience doing this, but gotta start someplace, right?

The fly wires were part of the hardware included in the kit, they are flat wire about 1/8th inch wide and I think its steel due to the fact I can solder to them.

I'm so glad I found a current build on this airplane. Thanks for the detailed pictures.
I have an old Sig kit partialy started. I'll be getting it out soon and completing it this winter.
Do you mind if I ask a few questions as I continue to build mine?
