I personally think the 155 would be awesome. I am using the YS 120 with a 14x7 graupner 3 blade prop. it's under propped but will hover (I am not good at it though). downhill vertical has nice prop braking and landing is like a dream. the 155 is a light weight engine for it's size and a 15x9 3 blade would work well. Tru turn has a great looking spinner for this plane in the 3 blade cut. Slimline has an "Ultimate" pitts style muffler .... they may make one for this engine. It is swept back more to dump out in the scale location with a smoke coil in it.
I use YS on all my glow apps. The pressurized 120 is T'd on the pressure side to a 2oz header tank for pressure reserve to the smoke tank. That way I dont have to use a smoke pump. the OS engines are nice as well.

Any opinions on the OS FS155? thinking i might get it for my Ultimate.

Nice. I was hoping it would make a good fit. I'm a big OS fan. I've had them on a few other planes and they have always worked well for me. Thanks for the input Thunderboat!
and i plan on building mine asap. im gonna make a few copys of the parts first.

ok, took the ultimate flying after readjusting the CG. But the elevator still seems slugish to response, I'm using the recomended throws, how responsive should the elevator be? Also tiped it over on one (last landing) of the landings and the cabanes bolt fasteners pulled through. Unfortunately this is the first one that I build so it doesn't have any of the mods that I used in the second build. Can anyone recomend a way to fix it without cutting open the top deck of the fuselage... thanks in advance..

Peter .... unless your used to 3D set-ups.... pushrod is not flexing... check that servo. I maidened mine in 93. About 5 yrs into it had to replace the elevator servo... went ahead and replaced the rudder ...later the aileron servos. Still using the S148's standard Futaba's and 72 mhz on an 8ua radio. per plans on the build with the stock supplied cowl and pants. I did reinforce the cabane mounts, firewalll and inner cowl/pants with glass and ca though. It still flies very responsive on the book settings with the exception of when I had an elevator servo starting to go bad... it became a dog. The plane is typical Goldberg... a great design.

hi ThunderBoat,
I'm checked everything as far as the mechanics go... there's no flex in the push rod and the servo is a new Hitec HS 645MG so that should be fine. The only thing I can think of is that I need to move the CG further back, it's at 2.5 inches from the LE at the fuse right now. I'm not a 3D flier at all but all of my other planes seemed to whip the tail around a with more authority including my Super Sportster 20, Dynaflite Spitfire 40, Four * 40. They're all set up with recomended settings, that's why when I flew the Ultimate I was suprised. Granted last time I flew it was in 93 and I was a begginer so it seemed like a hand full but now it's fun, it flies like it's on rails, perhaps that's the way it's supposed to be but I expected the elevator to react more. Maybe it needs a bigger motor and a bigger prop so it flies faster and the surface reacts better to the air flow. I'm using a super tiger 90 (italian one) and a 14x8 prop.

Naaaa.. The Bipe doesn't need "speed"...I think your ST 90 would be way more than fine...The bipe is designed to fly on a 60-90 two stroke so your at the upper end...You should have plenty of vertical performance...
I need to go check my throws...I use the factory throws as a starting point but usually wind up making adjustments till I feel comfortable...I don't remember the bipes settings off hand but I know it is not "sluggish"...
2.5" from the leading edge of the bottom wing @ the fuse with the plane upside down...Right??
All I can say is my bipe flies great with good authority and does snap rolls like a maniac!! It's neither twitchy nor sluggish by any stretch...I fly it on low rates and never switch to high even for spins or snap rolls...
When you have it trimmed for level flight (upright), what does it do when you roll too inverted flight??
I will go check my throws...

Atlanta, the plane is balanced 2.5" at the fuse upside down, when you roll it over for inverted flight you have to feed in a little down elev but i think it's because it has positive incidence at the horizontal stab so that would be normal. It snap rolls and rolls ver well. I'm going to try balancing it at the far end of the range 2 7/8 inches back and see if that makes it more springy... If you can measure your thows in inches with an incidence meter I would appreciate it. I used the guages provided by the kit to set the throws so I know it's per book... first I'll change the CG and then I'll start messing with throw ranges on the surfaces..
thaks for the input

Hi Peternj,
I had a ST 90 on mine, and rarely if ever needed full power for any of the basic maneuvers I did. I'm not a flier that does all the crazy 3D stuff, but someone certified IFO (I Fly Others) at our club flew the plane first and he did some of the crazy maneuvers, and he said "it will do anything you want it to"

Hello everyone,
There have been a few out there that peternj has sent the tracings for the wood parts for. I've traced the cabanes and the upper cabane support. The part that goes inside the top wing if you were to use the wire to attach, and not modify and use bolts. I've also traced the cabane braces.
If you would like a pdf of them, just send me a pm.

Do you guy mind if I join your brotherhood. This is a Carl Goldberg Ultimate ARF. This is the discontinued one that I scored. The parts were in pretty bad shape. I had to do a lot of recovering. Not a big fan of Ultracote. I have a OS Max .61 SF long stroke. Radio is a JR 7202 with JR servos.

hi brotherin, just so you know that abott and i have the latest package of the plans and parts tracing. we sent that out free of charge via email free of charge. I also ask that if anyone improves on the package please send me a PM so you can email it. Also please feel free to share it with other enthusiasts. I do not want to be a bottle neck... and if anyone knows on how to create CAD versions of these so they can be used in a laser cutter CNC machine that would be the ultimate improvement. I think that was the original intent Alfred and I had. I wish Great Planes would bring this kit back!

I have a set of decals that I can scan early next week. My son has a graphics shop and can possibly cut and print out the decals. I will check with him to see of he has the time to help us out.
I also have now received the scans of the template kit from Peter. Thanks for everything Pete.

I have two templates, they came with the scanned parts I received sometime in the past.
I will see if I can post them.
Bill S.
I have a larger 10 meg file, but the system said it was too large to post

I should have a full decal set since I bought a half built kit that at least was supposed to be complete. I will look into it when I go to my "building room" next time.
