Have a Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 for sale. I bought it years ago, and well it's time to clear out my inventory.Nothing is started, however in checking it over the cowling, canopy and landing gear wires are missing. I guess when I bought it, my thought was I'll buy the missing stuff when I'm ready. I checked with Fiberglass Specialties and they offer a fiberglass cowl (CG-7C for $38 and canopy CG-7C for $20) plus shipping. TNT will bend an all aluminum gear or, if you're handy you could bend new wires.

If interested, send me an Email, I'll send photos and we'll talk $$. I'm looking for a fair offer and someone to finish it.

Got2retire ( actually did)

Finely finished!!!!!! My Carl Goldberg Ultamate 10-300. Bought this kit brand new , one of the last out of Tower after they bought C.G. The kit was garbage! The laser cut balsa were OK but the ply. fuse parts looked like they were cut by a cheep hardware store router. Hardwood parts not right , & the template for cutting the top fuse. parts for the cabanes was too small. But it went together. This is my 5th. 10-300 throughout the years and it has always been my favorite plane. Did a few mods, reinforced the base of the cabanes , put the ele. servos in the tail(to counteract the weight of the larger O.S.1.20 AX) and built a mount for the TNT alum. main gear. Also put two ail. servos in the wing.
Worked on this since 2013 on and off (mostly off). With all this COVID garbage going on I looked at the bare bones and said "Why not". Had some white ,red & blue covering so managed to finish it.
Did the maiden this morning , flew just like an Ultimate! Like an old friend. Balance was good for the first flight( with no added weight),might go a little more to the tail in the future but it flew so well that I don't know. Trims were spot on. Landing was a squeaker so no real squawks. The front wing hold down bolt vibrated out in flight so only got one flight in today. Added some bonded washers so ,hopefully that won't be an issue in the future.
Man I'm pumped that this is done and flies so well.

I don't know what it is about Red, White, and Blue but planes just look so good in those colors. I have 4 planes covered that way, LT-40, Piper Cub, 4*60, and doing a Chipmunk, though the full scale is Red, White, and Blue, probably why I built the thing to begin with. The crashed Ultimate I have will get rebuilt, just need to get the parts into the laser software and get them cut out. These planes don't dead stick with a tail wind. The front got busted up to the cabanes, and the wings broke only where the struts mount, so wings are easy to repair, and the fuse will be once I get the parts cut. Then it will be recovered in Red White and Blue like my other planes, probably in a sunburst pattern.

I just need to get a cowl for it. I wonder if the cowl from the Chipmunk will work on it. Would be cool if it did since I made a mold for it. I'm going to run down and check it out.

The answer it, nope, too narrow, and flared the wrong way. I only have the bottom half of the cowl so can't even repair it to make a mold.

Hello all, finishing an original CG Ultimate, bought 15 years ago!!!

Two questiones:
-what king of glue if suitable to assemble the wheel pants and engine cowl?
-I would like to change the piano wire landing gear with an aluminum one and nylon bolts, that can break in a hard landing. Can someone point me the main measures you have used, and a source to buy them? (specially Europe or far east)

Best regards
Paco

Use acetone and the strips included to glue the cowl and pants together. You need top open the wheel openings first so you can place the strips inside. Make sure the seams are tight before gluing or it will seep out and damage the exterior, and don't use too much, just like thin CA, a little goes a long way. The acetone melts the plastic together much like plastic models glue does with models.

The aluminum main landing gear that I used is from TNT, I don't remember the address but I'm sure you can find them online. Acdii, Fiberglass Specialties has the cowl ,that's also what I used.

I did find they have it, but 3 variants too. The standard and two others, one for pits, one for muffler, but neither have a description that explains. I thought I might have saved the pieces but haven't found them yet. Going to be a while before I can get to it anyway.

The two that aren't standard are deeper at the front to clear a pitts type muffler. Neither ,however, were deep enough for the Bison muffler that I used so I had to cut the cowl.

The one I have had an Gemini II 120 twin on it, so the exhaust came out the sides with the heads, and the cowl was split along the sides, but I may be putting that motor on a SIG 1/5th Biper Cub for the added weight since the Biper needs a lot of forward CG due to the bottom wing being in front of the top wing. It looked really good, on the ground, but was tail heavy like mad in the air, did not figure the MAC out properly on it. I had it at the leading edge of the top wing, but found it more than likely needed to be at the base of the windshield instead. Once I repair the damaged lower wings and make new struts I will try again. I still need to figure out why it kept rolling towards the end, had it not been for that, I would have been able to bring it down in one piece. I was so close to saving it, but some idiot drove across the end of the runway while I was on final. Then the owners dog decided it wanted to get to know me better and was sniffing all around my legs, Way too many distractions when flying a tail heavy plane. I don't know if I had a servo failure, or a radio glitch, or a binding aileron that was causing the roll.

What killed my Ultimate was the throttle screw coming loose and the throttle fully closing just after taking off, making the turn and throttling back a bit. Had a heavy tail wind too, so it dropped like a rock.

Here’s my 28 year old Ultimate at the field today. I recently adjusted the valve gaps on several of my OS four strokes, including the 120 in this plane. It sure helped me gain back some power lost over the years on the other planes, and it worked on the Ultimate too. It was a joy to get some performance back. Made three flights with tons of loops, rolls, four point rolls, slow rolls, Cubans, Immelmann, etc. and all happy landings too. Hope you guys are staying active with your Ultimates, and staying well!

I really need to get started with getting the parts programmed for the laser so I can rebuild mine. The two times I flew it it flew nice. Should look for a cowl too.

I have about 15 flights on mine now, it flys ..well..like an Ultimate. The C/G is right on but I have been playing around with the elevators, with the two servos in the tail the geometry is a little off. Tying to get full throw and match the eles. all the way. Other than that it's like flying an old friend.

Slap a matchmaker in there if you can find one. One elevator output from the RX and both servos connected to the MM, then you can adjust the servos to match each other. Thats what I use in my giant P-47 with dual elevator servos.

I'm still flying mine - 11 or so years on. Going to the last scale comp of the year in two weeks... Hope to retire it by next year as I've got a larger 1.85m EMHW Ultimate on the way...

I have a couple of Matchboxes that I have used on my GS planes but I'm trying to do this in the transmitter. One less point of failure. May go with the Matchbox as a last resort.

Looking good . On mine I increased the rudder by about 15% , no real reason, just thought I would. The stock plane has a very effective rudder.

Also here, although my Ultimate did very few outings from last year. Sure it is time to pass an overhaul and taking to the sky again!

This Saturday I will dust off at least 5 of my model planes, as they have been a little "static" lately. Ultimate will go on the next round.

Best wishes from Spain and, please, keep safe!

I built one of these when they very first came out, about 30 years ago. It was a very, very sweet-flying plane. I had an OS 120 in it. I wish the kits could still be found (at normal prices, not the $400 +/ ones on fleabay).

There aren't a lot of parts in the kit.... wing ribs... formers and sides for the body.... grab the templates file and make it yourself would be my advice. There should be templates for the landing gear and cabanes as well.
