First KIT

Will the SIG Hog Bipe be a good 1st kit? I have build a couple ARFs before but never a KIT.

hog bipe

The Hog is an excellent flying plane! But I don't think it is a good first kit build. I am looking at the instructions, and there is a lot of shaping and sanding. You might think about building the Four Star .60 first. It is very similar in shape, and a great learning experience! Also fun to fly! And when the hog is done you can pull the .91 4c and radio gear for use in the Hog!

Just my $ .02

I agree that the 4 star is a great first plane.

What do you think of the GP RV-4 as a first kit?

First KIT

I've built both the fourstar 60 and the hog bipe. I would agree that the hog is not a good first kit. The wings require a lot of sanding and the instructions assume the builder has built before.

The four star 60 on the other hand is an excellent first kit. All laser cut, hardly any sanding at all. The instructions are excellent. The four star is a more forgiving flyer as well, it can be landed like a trainer. The hog must be flown in for a landing, throttle management is a must.

Of course if you are good with your hands and have a good eye for reading between the lines, you might make out just fine. Both are great planes. Good luck.

I have no personal experience with GP kits.

First KIT

I have lots of experience with GP kits, and I love them all! (Although their Super Skybolt was not an easy build!)

The SIG Astro Hog (single low wing) would also be a reasonably good first kit to build. Good wood and instructions plus tricycle gear.
