RE: SIG in business
I've been looking at the Astro-Hog and the Spacewalker...
'course I could use another Hog-Bipe kit... just in case. |
RE: SIG in business
I love Sig and all their products, not just the planes.
I've been wanting a Hog Bipe since April, every month they tell me the run will be next month, now it's November.I went ahead and picked one up here on RCU that was new in the box.Had to have itfor a fall build. I've built about 1/2 their kits-fun, easy and fast. Just starting the "Hog" any interest in a build thread on this?? I know many have been done. Mark |
RE: SIG in business
I have the Sig 1/4 scale J-3 Cub NIB. It's the first run of this iconic kit. I bought it new somewhere around 1982 when they first came out. I'm not really anxious to sell, but if anyone's interested in it, please PM me.

VMS-
Hmmm. Maybe I can sell you the completed, tried and true birds and I can have the fun building the new kits :) |
RE: SIG in business
Sig's online ordering issue has been corrected. I have received a couple of E mails from them when my order for a LT25 fuse replacement wouldn't go through. I think they even tried calling me but the background noise at work was so high, I couldn't hear.
Besides the BUSA Eindecker 90 that I have on my bench now, everything I have is Sig including a LT 40, Four Star 40 and 60, LT25, a Herr Cloud Ranger and a SSE yet to be touched. If I have to wait for a Sig kit, I will! The quality and customer service is exceptional. |
RE: SIG in business
On Friday, September 17, I mailed an order for a Sig Somethin' Extra with a personal check directly to Sig in Iowa. The following Thursday, September 23, the kit was on my door step. That's a quick turn-around! Sig also honored a 25% discount coupon I won at a fly-in earlier this summer. I've completed the wings and tail feathers and am starting to build the fuse today. I've really enjoyed working on the kit, I hope Sig is able to continue production of their kits in the future!

RE: SIG in business
"And we can see how well that worked out for CG kits. "
My thought exactly! In the future, I'm buying 2 of every kit when possible. Good kits are really getting scarce! Ed |
RE: SIG in business
I just got off the phone with Sig..
I ordered the last Astro Hog they had in stock... They didn't have any 4* kits, nor Hog Bipe kits on hand, they expect them to be available November 1st. |
RE: SIG in business
ORIGINAL: oldtyme ORIGINAL: ARUP I just made a SIG purchase and will receive the items soon! Christmas in September- weeeee! 1/4 Cub kit, 1/6 Cub kit, Koverall, Stix-it, dope, sanding sealer and spare wood. Joy, joy! I love Cubs! To Oldtyme- you have to build the dummy engine for one isn't included in the kit and SIG never offered an aftermarket item for it. Williams Bros dummy cylinders, Evergreen brand plastic tubing and sheets plus balsa, paint and glue will get ya an engine to stick out of the cowl! |
RE: SIG in business
Hi All,
So, they do not have anymore Hog Biplanes. Well, then I might have gotten the last two kits they had. I had the kits on order since June. I have heard several reasons for the delay. First, Sig was waiting for a shipment of balsa wood. That sounds reasonable. But, it kept slipping back, always the next month. They are now waiting for a shipment of plastic. What is holding up some of the kits is that they do not have the wheel pants for the kits. I ordered 5 planes from Sig: a 4* 40, two Somethin' Extras and two Hog Bipes. They sent me the 4* and the two Extras, but the Extras did not have the wheel pants in the boxes. They provided me with a slip to send in so they will send them to me when they have them. The Hog Bipes were being held up for the same reason. I contacted Dave to send me the Hog kits which I will receive Monday, Oct. 4th, minus the wheel pants and plastic headrest. Dave assured me that the parts will be sent when they have them. I really hope that this is just bumps in the road for Sig and their suppliers, and not with Sig itself. There are several more planes that I want to order from them (at least 3 more). I know that building from kits seem to be a dying hobby if you look at the companies that still make kits. I am glad that there companies like Sig, Juno RC and AK-Models that still make kits. I know that Great Planes make kits, but it seems that the kits are of lesser quality (I say this with limited experience with Great Planes kits). Happy Flying and Soft Landings! |

I don't know about SIG going out of, or staying in busines. I just know that their 1/3 scale Spacewalker is about the smoothest flying and landing plane I have flown. I hope they keep up the good work.

RE: SIG in business
Well, it sure sounds like some are ready to bury Sig and have the post mortem later.
I just love how rumors spread so fast on the internet without any evidence whatsoever. BUSA as well has had balsa supply problems. Does this mean they are going out of business? Sig kits are some of the best available. Their planes are designed to fly when built correctly and some fly even when they are not built too well. I don't see Sig going out of business too soon. I have built: 2- LT-40, 4*60, Seniorita, Citabria, Kougar. I have the 1/5 scale Cub and the Dornier Do 217 in the box. I plan to get 4*40 and 4*60, Hog Bipe and maybe even an Astro Hog. No need to worry... |

RE: SIG in business
Sig Kits and ARF's are no longer available from our two largest hobby stores in Edmonton Alberta

RE: SIG in business
I emailed Sig a few days ago and they are sending me out a missing part from my LT-40 kit. I don't think they are out of business but it does sound like they have slowed right down due to supply problems??? Who really knows what's going on? Fingers crossed they hang about for a few years yet though???

RE: SIG in business
Sig has had supply problems for a long time now. More and more, we have to wonder if the problem is really about cash flow - no cash, no supply. I fear that they are in a death spiral right now, and will need a big jolt to right the ship if they wish to return as a major hobby player, as they were a decade ago.

RE: SIG in business
Dave at Sig told me they will produce the 1/3 scale Spacewalker kits in a couple of weeks. I had asked about availibility.

RE: SIG in business
Apparently Sig is making parts/kits for D&L designs.
http://www.dldesigns.net/flightln.htm I lost the wing tube for my Gizmo kit and emailed D&L for a replacement. I was told that they use Sig Manufacturing to make many of the parts/kits for their models. Doug told me that the Gizmo wing tube is the same as the wing tube used in the Sig Something Extra. D&L has some very nice models and some are ARC. "I want the "Stampe SV-4B".........;) Real Good People at D&L, Doug was very helpful, I'll buy from him again. A couple months ago I purchased a Hog Bipe and an Astro Hog just in case....;) I was also told the plastic head rest and wheel pants were not available (Hog Bipe). I bought the kit anyway. |
RE: SIG in business
Broken Wings, I met the guy from D&L at the Ontario show last year, nice guy and I like his airplanes too. When i built my Astro Hog a few months back I opted to make a Balsa Head rest so I wouldnt have to worry about finding paint, it wasnt too bad to make by hand. I sure hope SIG stays with us, great airplanes to build and fly. I still want to build a SIG Hog Bipe.

RE: SIG in business
Well... it was 11 months and 3 days, but sig did deliver my hog bipe kit and wheel pants. In the mean time I have moved and don't have room to build now. At least I have the kit. Once i start it i will posted here.
Daddy"o" once i get the bipe built, we will need to get together and design a bipe with the uproar/dazzler. I have designed planes in the past, but it has been years. I think between the both of us, we should be able to make a good plane. dan |
