ok I am somewhat perplexed..I have a gp easy sport arf.. I am using a os.46fx and am not sure whether to mount it on the mountsupplied simply drilling holes and using self tap screws or drill entirely thru the mount and use nuts and bolts to secure it..I am not sure given the power of the engine if screwing the engine to the mount willeventually vibrate l;oose ..the bolted version seems safer ..opinions please..

In this area I always go for the overkill. I don't know what type of mount came with your kit, but I use the glass filled nylon engine mounts, drill and tap 6-32, use allen head cap screws with loctite, and I put nyloc nuts on. Too much? Maybe. Secure? Yes.

I am thinking like you..they supplied a nylon glass mount and sure I can drill it and use the self tapping screws but like yourself I sleep better if I drill use locite and long bolts with nuts.. why worry about it.thanks I was leaning that way guess i wanted to hear it from somebody else..thanks!!!

motorbuzz said he uses loctite. I'm assuming he means on the nuts - not the nylon mount. Loctite will dissolve some types of plastic and should not be used as a thread-locker for any type of plastic.

I usually drill and tap a nylon mount but I don't tap the last 1/8" or so. That untapped area does a good job of grabbing the bolt. I've never had any type of problem with an engine coming loose or a mount breaking in normal use with this setup.

No, I loctite the entire threaded area of the bolt. Never thought about the chemical interaction. That could have caused some real problems. I can speak from my own experience. The Piper Cub in my avatar was built in 1998 with the loctited bolts in a glass filled nylon engine mount (OS .70 four stroke). I had the engine out two weeks ago to fit a new cowl and there seems to be no deterioration of the material, thank goodness. From now on when I use loctite, I'll think a little more about what might react with it.

If I'm doing it for a product review, I do it as stated in the manual.

But if it's for me, I do like Cafeen... Drill and then tap, but stop the tap before it cuts the complete thread.

I like to drill and use 6-32 bolt with washer on the engine side and lock nuts on the other side.
