SIG Kits - status
 

I just tried to order a SIG kit from an online website...no names...but was told they are scheduled to begin building kits agains around Dec. 13...anyone have any other info on this or what to expect?...I cancelled my order and said I would wait until I saw some real inventory being delivered..was looking for a Kougar or King Kobra to build for this winter....tell me what anyone has heard...

They are not very realistic on their production schedules...just saying....speaks to a larger problem that's all...

Either you want one of the kits you listed in your first post - or you don't. BOTH kits are in stock and available from Sig.

Whats the problem? Order one and start slingin' glue man!!

I ordered a King Kobra and received it with no problems, took about 8 days.

Graves RC in Orlando has several Sig kits in stock. Kobra's LT40's Astro Hogs 4*120's even some of the ARF's....... gravesrc.com

Thats wierd because i ordered a Sig Somethin Extra about 2 months ago, they never told me when I would receive it, and after a month of no kit, I called them to ask whats up, they said they don't have the plastic for the wheel pants, so I said just send me the kit. Another 2 weeks went by, and speaking I live about 2 hours from the Sig factory, it shouldn't take long to get to my house. Then I decided to drive to sig, and they didn't have any Sig Somethin Extras kitted yet, so I got my money back, thats the end of Sig for me.

Based on posts over the past year, many people have the impression SIG is not a healthy company. This may or may not be the case. They have a phone number and email address on their web site http://www.sigmfg.com so it's easy to ask them if they have what you want. If yes, order directly from them. Shipping is 9.95 which is about what most places charge. If you spend $150, shipping is free.

If You have been to Sig you know they are haveing some problems.  You also know if you have been doing bussiness with them for a while that they they are not the the same people with the same bussiness attitudes as before.  When Mike left, (two weeks before the fly-in this spring) it left a major PR whole in the company.   I do believe they are trying to get it together. They could start by being honest with us all about what is going on.   As we are all aware, times are tough, especially in the hobby industry.  I intend to try and be patient and continue to do bussiness with them.  They have made some mistakes, but they are not gone, or are they done!

I tried to order some kits in June and was told they were starting to cut kits again and would have all kits in stock and ready to ship by mid July. July came and went..... no kits. Now it's Dec. 13th?
My LHS last week tried to order some Sig kits and ARF's. They were told by Sig that they would never get anymore arf's (which is fine with me anyway) and it would be next year sometime on kits. So take that for what it is worth.

Hmmm no ARFs perhaps then we will see a kit of the 40 and 110 sized Rascals. Yah I'd go for that!

JNorton, It is my understanding that a kit of the Rascal 110 is being developed by Sig for release soon. I have a Rascal 110 ARF and it is a great aircraft. I was glad to hear that they intend to keep it alive as a kit. Don't know about the 40 size as a kit.

I'll be more than happy to give them a chance. It's hard battling back from hard times. I've gotten several kits - Astro Hog, 1/5 scale Cub, King Kobra after a wait from my local hobby shop. I can wait. It's better than the alternative. I felt really blessed when an RCU member offered his CG Ultimate kit for sale and I was able to purchase it.

Hi everybody,

I have had some issues dealing with Sig in the past several months. I ordered the following: 4 Star 40, 2 Sig Something Extras and two Hog Bipes. I got the 4 Star right away. They said that they had the sig extra kits but not the wheel pants. I told them they could send the kits out without the wheel pants and send them when they had them. Less than two weeks, I had the kits. When I ordered the hogs, they told me that it would take a month. It took longer than that because they were waiting for a shipment of balsa. After three months, they told me that the kits were cut but they were still waiting for a shipment of plastic to make the wheel pants. I told them again to ship the kits and I had the kits in less than two weeks. This past Monday, I received 4 sets of wheel pants as promised (it took four months to get them). Now, let me say this. The people I dealt with at Sig were very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. They were very quick to respond to my emails. I will definitely buy from Sig in the future. There are not many kit makers anymore. Unless you are itching to get hold of a plane and have it built right away, then I would call Sig, see if they have the plane you want in stock and order it. If not, order the kit you want and just wait for it. Download the manual, buy the parts you need to make the kit and get everything ready. It might take a month, maybe two to get the kit. I find it hard to believe that it has taken people 7 or 8 months to get their kits. Maybe it did take that long and I was fairly lucky in getting my kits in a reasonable amount of time. One thing I hope that we do not do is abandon kit makers like Sig because of bumps in the road. There is a high global demand for balsa wood (wind power blades). Also think about the market dynamics. In the past, all you could really buy is just kits and few arfs. Now, you have to search for the kits. Also, it is not good business to keep a large inventory of stock that is not in high demand. Sig simply follows a batch operation model. I know that people say that Sig has changed hands and that is the reason there are issues. If so, then there will be growing pains. If people stop ordering or bad mouth Sig and influence others not to buy their kits, than how does Sig improve their situation and provide kits? I for one like to support kit makers, especially mom and pop businesses. I have order kits from JunoRC (which will be closing down for the next two years while the owner is in Singapore) and AK-models (excellent source for Prop Jets). Finally, building planes from kits or from scratch is a labor of love, something that we do to have something unique, to see a box of sticks transform into a plane, burning holes in the sky that we did with our own two hands. I love to build planes. I can be impatient and I hate to wait. But, I am willing to do it for the enjoyment of the hobby. If I really need to fly now, I order a kit, buy an arf and fly it while I wait for my kit and or build it. I know that I am rambling on here, just some random thoughts in my head.

Knowing Sig didn't have much on hand, I called them last month. I was looking at Hog Bipe, and/or and Astro Hog. They had one and only one Astro Hog on hand. I ordered it, and it was on my doorstep 2 days later.

I should probably give them a call sometime soon and buy some more.

Modelers won't abandon kit makers as long as they produce quality kits at a fair price. Those requirements have to be met for the company to succeed. If not then customers will look elsewhere. Sadly that's what is happening to Sig. They have quality and a fair price but they are not producing.


It is not good business to keep nothing in stock either. If you don't have it you can't sell it. Sig has discontinued all it's a
ARF models even though there is a high demand for them. What kind of marketing strategy is that?
