GP .40 Lear Jet build
Hi guys. I finally decided to finish my lear jet build. I am in the process of hinging the control surfaces. I decided to use Robart hinges instead of the hinge tape. This is my first time using these hinges. What is the best way to get these hinges to stay put?
Can I use thick CA or is epoxy best for this type of hinge? Thanks, Marco. |
RE: GP .40 Lear Jet build
I have used a robart drill jig, hinge glue and petroleum jelly for the hinges on my sig senior. After drilling the initial hole i used a dremel conical sanding bit to widen the drilled hole (control surface only) a bit so the "knuckle" of the hinge would sit inside the control surface, this prevented a large gap. The petrolium jelly prevents glue from gumming up the hinge, and the hinge glue is a aliphatic resign (wood glue) sold as hinge glue. I'm not sure if there is a special difference between it and regular wood glue. I couldn't find a link, got it at my lhs...
Maybe someone who knows better than i could pipe up. I really like the robart hinges, and the process of installing them. Good luck. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXET65&P=7 |

Kargo, thanks for the encouragement. The alphatic(?) glue sounds like the way to go as it seems to wick into the surrounding wood.
Thanks again for your help. |
