Im building a 1/6th scale J3, any recomendations as to what size glow engine would be a good fit.</p>

I put an OS 40 (30yrs old new). Installed it upside down with side muffler. Havent flown it yet, will start covering soon.
Used Roberts pin hinges for the wing struts so I can leave them in place and just fold them when done flying. CA hines for everything else.
The hardware for this kit is outdated in my opinion.

I'm thinking about building one as an Army Grasshopper and putting in an old OS 26 four stroker! SIG Cubs can be built very lightweight. They don't need big engines. I have one built, ready for paint and converted into a PA-12 Super Cruiser. It will have an OS 53 four stroker in it. That should be more than enough power to tow small sailplanes, too!

I had one, the same Sig kit that I built about 30 years ago. Had a 35 engine in it. Flew better than with a 25.

I have one I built 15 years ago that I put a Saito 40 on, I had to move the fire wall back a bit to accomdate the carb and extra length of the 4 stroke case. I think this kit would be great electric powered also.

Mine has an OS 48 Surpass four stroke mounted inverted. Perfect. Use about half to 2/3 throttle for scale like takeoff, and cruise around on less than half throttle if you want. Plenty of power if you want to hoon around a bit, but not the "unlimited vertical" that everyone seems to want these days.

I have towed gliders with the 48 no problem.

40 to 52 four-stroke would be my choice.

Although I am planning to put the OS 40 inverted in it for scale like performance a 35 would be ideal.

I agree, the weight of this bird is lite and prefect f/a electric set up.

What is the weight of your completed model?

Do you have the dummy engines on yours? Where did you get it from. Pity SIG doesnt supply it.

Hi Rafeek,

5 lb 8 oz. I have a dummy engine on my model but it is home made from cylinder shaped chunks of balsa with hacksaw cuts for the fins. Looks not too bad painted up.

Fibre Glass Specialties have three different cowls to suit this kit. One to convert to super cub, the standard one , and a J3 one with a dummy engine. I haven't seen their cowl so can't comment on how they look.
