HELP with this support rod please
 

Hey guys...Irecently purchased an Airfield P-47 Thunderbolt 1400mm series. I bought the RTF version, but it appears assembly is required..no big deal.

However, When i tried putting the support rod into each of the wings and through the fuselage, there seems to be a lot of the rod leftover that prevents the wings from being secured into the fuselage.

Why might this be? Am i missing something here??

What do you mean by the support rod? The Wing dowel?

If thats the case, try cutting down the dowel a little bit.

I'm still not clear what the problem is buts thats my guess.

I think he means the wing joiner tube that extends out each side of the fuse which the wings slip onto is not allowing the wing to slide fully on and there is a gap between the fuse and wing root section.

Questions:
Is it one side or both wings showing he issue:
What is the distance between the fuse and wing root.
Does the rod get secured in a stationary manner or is it able slide left and right prior to the wings being installed.
Do the wings have a tube for the rod to slide into?

If the gap looks to be the spacing of ribs then it's not seating to full depth in the wing. If its both wings it may be a manuf issue.

What you have said is exactly what i was trying to describe. The rod seems to go in all the way and then makes a noise like it is hitting a barrier. From this it is safe to assume the rod is in all the way.

However, when i look at the instructions, they point to a hole that holds a screw in the wing. My assumption is that when this screw comes out the rod can go in the rest of the way. Unfortunately after getting this screw out, that is not the case.

It sounds like the wing tube is hitting the screw hole. Slide the tube into the wing until it stops. Mark the tube with tape where it exits the wing or just hold the place with your finger. Then lay the tube on the outside of the wing and see if it stops at the screw hole. If this is the case, you may have to work with the wing tube to get it past the screw hole. Or you can take a dowel rod and use it to work the screw area from the inside. Either should work without a major effort. Whatever you do, do not cut the tube shorter. The wing needs the tube at full length for strength.

i measured it and it goes exactly to the screw hole and not a mm further.

How do i work the inside of this area? When i stick my eye up to the hole in the wing to look down it, it seems like there is foam or something blocking the rod from going the rest of the way through. is this what you are talking about??

Because looking down into it, i dont see any kind of screw or metal object blocking the path :/
