Hog Bipe
 

I know someone that is selling a 80% complete sig hog bipe kit. He purchased it back in the early 80's. Any ideas on the cost? Was there any problems with the kits back then. It looks good from what I see, but with a kit that old, I didn't know if there were any desing issues etc. It has a 54 in top wing span and is supposed to be fitted with a 60 size 2 stroke.

Hi I'm not familiar with the older kits, But a Saito .91 seems to be the engine of choice now!

The Hog bipe was introduced by Sig in the mid 1990's. The kit was one of the first to use laser cut parts. It is an excellent kit with good quality wood, excellent instructions and builds very easily and quickly. If the kit is one of the early ones, the instructions may have only one center-mount servo for the wing shown. After problems with aileron flutter (including mine), Sig changed the kit to have separate servos for each aileron in the lower wing. The upper ones are connected to the lower ones via pushrods. I believe that Sig supplies 2-56 rods. Toss them and use 4-40. The changes are not difficult to do. I had to cut into the wing to make the changes to mine since it was already built, but if the wing is not covered yet, it is a piece of cake. The plane flys good and nothing looks nicer than a bipe in the air. Have fun building yours.

One small correction...

Sig introduced the Hog Bipe in the 60's. It was part of the "Hog Line" (Smog Hog, Astro Hog)

It was redesigned later using modern building techniques and laser cutting.
