hi
well it dosen't look like G-P is going to come out anytime soon with a larger stinger ,so i would like to get a stinger arf and tear it down and enlarger it from 49.5 to 80" has this been done before and what % do i blow it up ?do i change the stick size ? plywood size,etc would i even be able to fine a cowl and canopy,landing gear? thanks

looks like 62%, I think you would be better off getting a kit they are out there you just have to find them

I'm not sure why you would want to tear it down. All the inportant measurements can be taken externally. Where you are going to run into trouble is the turtle deck. It is molded ABS plastic as is the wing cover and tank cover. so you will need to laminate them out of balsa or very thin ply, or lay in stringers over formers. Fiberglass Specailities has the wing cover, tank cover, cowl, and wheel pants, maybe more for the kit. You may be able to find a foam core for the turtle deck that you can glass or cover with balsa. The landing gear is a bit funky, 6061-t6 aluminum, with 3 1/2" wheels, the top of the LG is 9" in heigh to ground line. The LG is 1" wide top to bottom, but it is swept back around 5 to 10 degrees. You would need a 1/4" by 4" by proper length of 6061-T6 to make your own. If I were doing it, I would buld up the wings vs the foam core. Very simple airfoil, full symetric and no tapers or dihedral to contend with.

The fuselage is basicly a box built with 1/8" door skin ply for the sides, Open top, with the ABS plastic covers. 3/32" balsa for the floor pan up to the Landing gear mount which is the floor pan forward. 3/8" tri stock and 3/8" square stock is used in the fuselage, with the square stock used for le and to on the vertical and horzontals with 1/4 x 3/8 for the ribs. It is a very straight forward build.

Draw everything out on white paper so you have templates of every part. Go to Kinkos to have everything enlarged to the size you would like. They have a scale meter so you can get it any size you would like. Plans too.

The plans and instructions have the parts templates as you have to cut your own formers from the sub-par wood that was provided. I have one that I am fiddling with off and on. I will not be using any of the ABS that came in the kit. All is done except for building the top half of the fuse-should be a nice sport plane when done.

WoW!! Have not heard much interest in a Stinger in a while. It was my first Giant scale build. And at 80"ws back then it was a large model to take to the field. Hope you can obtain the kit, and either get the aftermarket fiberglass parts to replace the plastic supplied in the kit or make your own out of balsa. Had a g-62 in mine, used aftermarket landing gear also. Good luck with yours....Gene;)
