That 4 letter word SNOW
What do you do when winter strikes early and leaves you without power? Hard to build without light. And the tools don't work. My wife is tolerant of my hobby but I don't think she would like me using the generator to power my workshop instead of the heater and fridge.
Thanks, Bob |
RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
I know what you mean, I live in southeast pa and didn't have power on saturday, my most productive building day.

RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
I purchased a 7000 watt Generac generator. Enough to power my air conditioner in the summer along with the refrigerator, freezer, lights and TV. Of course it will also power my hobby shop ... Gee I wonder how that happened. <BIG GRIN>

Hey I have a bridge to sell....:D Ken |
RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
We had a similar storm here in western NY in 2006. No power for 8 days. I installed a transfer switch and bought a gas generator. Problem was our gas stations had no power. Now I keep 15 gallons of gas stored for the generator.

Moved from the mountains of Calif. to Vegas. Even sold my generator before I moved. It does snow a little once in a while but now I can enjoy it. Still wearing shorts here.:D

Years ago it was, "Go west young man." Today it is "Go south young man."
Got to gloat. We had marvelous weather here this weekend and flew both days. The excessive summer heat has been broken, finally! We are at 26.45°N 98.26°W Snow looks pretty, in a postcard picture.;) Bliksem |
RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
My solution was to flee the northeast ~30 years ago. No snow in Palm Beach so far this year :D

RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
We just missed it. Points from Maryland on north got hit pretty hard. I think this is the year to buy one of those nice big generators....Good luck to everyone this winter!

RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
I live in Alaska. It's crazy that the east coast was getting snow before us! We finally started getting snow yesterday. Have a few inches so far. Also, I have a kerosene heater that is totally awesome. Heats the garage or the whole house if need be. Also, up here, we bury our power lines! Maybe the east coast will catch on someday. :D Get some skis for your planes. They're tons of fun! I've flown up here when it was -15 degrees out. Get out there and go fly!
Here's the Kerosene heater I have. My wife used it last year while I was deployed and the power was out for about 8 hours. It heats my 2,000 square foot house and puts out a warm glow. It's safe to use indoors too. I use it in my garage all the time. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053 http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pro...61245a_400.jpg |

Oh no.... what is snow? Is it that white stuff that I see on christmas card?
I am sorry to be sarcastic but here we fly year round[:-] |
RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
AT least you'll get power back shortly and the snow will melt after a few days. Once we get snow up here (usually around Thanksgiving), we don't see the ground again till April! ORIGINAL: Gray Beard Still wearing shorts here.:D |
RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
i was lucky i didn't loose power, this storm. i live in west chester, PA. infact our field is clear and may go flyin today. no power is a bummer. i lived in florida and was without power from a hurricaine in 2004,in aug for 11 days. lucky i had a pool and a generator. we could run the fridge and pool pump. you just have to tough it out. the hobby can wait. maybe do some things that don't require power tools. x-acto knives and razor saws can do alot towards building. i'm working on a dirty birdy kit right now. it's the orignial bridi, kit a guy gave me. it's alot of work but will be worth it in the end. i just started covering the fuse. the building is done after five weeks work. it's going to be yellow with black and red trim...............hang in there.................RON

RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
We got a very slight dusting of snow last Saturday. Did not even stick to the driveway. I love to fly in the snow. I put skies on my smaller planes and head to the field. I started to build a set of skies from wood last winter but never got them done.
I have a 6000 generator. It will run my pellet stoves, frig, lights, and other odds and ends. OR we can plug it into my 24 foot camper and be totaly set. -Andrew |
RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
14 KW Seimans generator. Purrs like a kitten. Runs the whole house and man cave(shop). Let it snow or do whatever else it wants to do!

That's fine I'll take my 80 degree summers verses your 110 degree summers. To each their own.
