advice needed
 

Hey all, I recently have gotten the R/C build bug, I have been out of the airplane scene for probably 10 years and dont really know whats available for kits as everything has gone to ARF and RTF electric. I want to build a scale wood kit(foam doesnt seem fun to me), and dont really know where to look to find them, I have been on all the major brand websites tower,horizon,topflight, greatplanes ect. and havent really found anything and just glancing at this website shows me that you all do know where to look lol.

Now i have some catches here for what I want to build I have a satio 4 stroke 52, and satio 180 engines that I am trying to use, as they were what I had before in other planes and dont really want to buy a new engine if i have two basicly brand new ones just sitting already. I would really like a Cessna 185 kit, but the only thing I have found from a quick search on here was a trashy foamy from asia, and a massive 45cc kit from germany, the german kit would be awesome but $500 for just the wood is a bit much and i dont think my 30cc satio would work

I have previous build experiance as i built the GP super cub, and a bunch of ARFs

Balsa USA has some nice looking new kits this year. I picked up a Smoothie.

Wendell Hostetler has a plan for a 185 Cessna. 108.5" wing span. There is a build on RC Scalebuilder

Get you a sig four star 120 and drop that big saito in it.

Or a carl goldberg decathlon for the 180,it looks nice in yellow instead of the usual red and white.While you're at it a trashy small asian foamie might get your hand back in unless you have a sim,be a shame to crash a good one and those foamies sure take a good caning.Hope over to the saito thread and brush up your tuning skills a bit while building and practice with the foamie

yeah i was lookin at that decathalon, i am gona have to do a search for differnt color schemes and see how much it grows on me lol

yeah a foamy would be a good idea, i am in the process of tryign to find a rx-ready flyzone corvalis local but having 0 luck

There are several kits out there that will fit the bill but I have fixated on your 1.80. If it's a high wing plane your looking for then the Decathlon is a perfect fit for your Saito. It's also a nice build and good kit. Easy to fly and still a good stunt plane. Covering choice is all up to the builder. The kit even lends itself well to anyone wanting to do a scale build.

You are going to run into trouble, if you think $500 is too much for a kit, especially for something rare, like a Cessna 185.

As John stated above, Wendel Hostetler has some nice designs that will work for you. Kit prices, though, will be another story. Expect $300-$500 by the time that you collect the kit, plans, and fiberglass parts.

Hell i never run into trouble,i still think 500 bucks is too much so it does'nt bother me to busy flying mate:)

apperantly you like others who have posted, have not actually read what I had posted, that was $500 for JUST the Wood, 500 for everything would be another story

Price a kit, for a Hostetler design. The last one that I purchased was $400. By the time you add a cowl and wheel pants, you are close to $500. Then add the harware that you would expect , and see where you're at.

alright everyone, thankyou for all of your advice. I have opted for the GP Decathalon for the 180, and the Sig 1/5 cub for the 52, now the hard part is to wait for them to arrive and pick what one to build first >.<

A Sig Something Extra would be good for the 52.

You want to put a 52 in a 1/5 scale cub? Are you keeping the wings full lentgth? If you clip, it won't be enough in my opinion. You'll need to be a bit on the floaty side with the .52.

I have a 70 4 stroke in my 1/6 clipped cub and it seems just right....

Can't get any more smack dab in the middle of the suggested engine size than the 52 imo. If it comes to it that the motor just isnt enough to fly the plane how I like, I can always just sell it later, or buy a larger motor. But I am looking for something pretty slow and easy going, personally I think its extreamly dumb to take something that looks like a 65hp civilian two seater plane and do torque rolls with, so I am guessing the 52 will prob be just fine. Arobatics are cool and all, but Ireally like doing scale fly bys, touch and goes and I love the way a plane sounds idling over my head as I "buz the tower" lol.
