Balsa Sheeting Question

Hey folks, building a kit and have a very basic question... When sheeting, how do you figure out where to trim the sheeting so that it is half way on a stringer The plans suggest using bright colored chalk to mark the stringer and then wet the sheeting and press it against the chalk to mark the back of the sheeting. And then cut in the middle of that. Tried it but the chalk didn't really mark the sheeting all that well. Used my kids sidewalk chalk. Any other tricks to make this easy?

Told you it was a basic question. ;)

Thanks!!

Dave

RE: Balsa Sheeting Question

I think of the powder that comes with the chalk lines used in construction.

A semi-rigid transparent plastic, like canopy material may help transfer structure details onto a balsa sheet.

RE: Balsa Sheeting Question

Poke a few pins through the back of the stringer so they're sticking out just a tad. Test fit the sheeting. The pin dimples in the sheeting mark your cut line.

Lnewqban, Thanks for the link. Looks like great information there!

Cutaway, now that's a simple tip that makes sense and I'll probably go with it! Thanks so much! I knew there would be tips and tricks for this from some of the great knowledgeable folks on this forum! Any others from anyone else?

Dave
