GP Extra 300S build
 

I am considering ordering a GP Extra 300S 60-90 kit. Intend to use it with a DLE20. This isint my first build but I am not an experienced builder. I have built a GP UltraSport 40+ before- well, I half built it and then a more experienced builder completed it for me. So I have a few questions

1) Is this a fairly easy kit to build. Since I built the US40+ a couple of years ago, my building skills have improved and I have got all the tools now (dremel etc)

2) I want to 3D this airplane. What are the mods I need to make? Can someone point me to the page where the mods are listed?

3) What are the critical areas I need to fibreglass?

4) How many rolls of monokote will I need?

Hi Ameyan

I built up this kit a couple of years ago and it is not a particularly difficult kit to build and the instructions are excellent.

As a kit you could build it stock i.e.e without any modifications and it will fly great - but will not be a good 3D performer.

To do 3D would take a fair amount of modifications and or replacement of parts, which if you are not sure about doing is probably better left until you have built up some more kits - or scratch built a plane or two.

It is however a superb aerobatics flyer and I am sure you will enjoy the build as well as the flight characteristics.

Follow the instructions regarding fibreglass reinforcement the only area I reinforced with glass was the ABS cowl along the inside seam. The wing is strong enough as it is without the need to glass it.

2 - 3 rolls of covering should do it depending on your colour scheme.

Hello ameyam, I too just got one of these kits last week & will be using the same engine in mine. I also want to do 3-d with it. From all I have read on this, it needs to loose some weight to do 3-d well. I am still investigating this. I can keep this thread up to date as I find out things if you'd like. I will subscribe to this thread to keep up with your build. good luck. I was just trying to upload a picture or 2 and things just are not working right now, I will try again later. Bill

I've posted over 600 pictures of my GP Extra 300S build in two threads. Not real keen on trying to post any more pictures on RCU right now.
