I have just built a 1/7-scale P51 plane and have come to the point where I have to decide what brand of cover material to use. Does anyone have suggestions? I would like to end with an aluminium colour.

I just picked up 2 rolls of ultracote from the LHS and it was only 9.99.
It was Ultracoat Plus, which had a sticky back that stuck to the wood before I even got the iron to it.
Gotta say compared to Monokote this stuff was WAY easier to use.

So you recommend Ultracoat Plus over Monokote. Do you have experience with GlossTex (which my local store is recommending) or Solarfilm, SolarTex ?

Unfortunately no. The 4*60 was my first kit, and my first covering job (see 4*60 80% done thread).
Between the two I've used, I prefer ultracote.

That's a pity. Monocote is not listed in the shops around here. It is probably a US product.

Planepeter:

Try Oracover. I think you can get it easily in the UK. Every bit as good, if not better, than MonoKote.

Bill.

Is that the stuff that the ARF's Maunfacturers are covering with Bill?

Crash:

Some ARFs do have Oracover.

Here in the states it's sold under a different name but it is still Oracover. I think it's Ultracote, but I'm not sure. Not the self-stick Ultracote Plus, the regular Ultracote.

Bill.

Yes...

Oracover = Ultracote

If you open a roll of UC, it says "Oracover" right on the paper backing.
