Dino
That is a well color coordinated scheme. It just caught my eyes. Very pretty. Good choice.

I fly my inherited Kadet Senior regularly over the years. Love the plane. I recovered mine the same with original Circus Pink as my best friend had it before he passed away 2007.

Pink engine:cool:
What paint is used. I have one .40 Saito and it is running pretty hot even with proper mixture and cooling. I would expect paint to be burned off.

Few words about my color choices. To be fair I have to admit I did not select the colors. I gave some examples to my daughters to choose from. My preferred combination would have been lighter pink with dark graphite grey. Luckily I followed advice from offspring. Color pattern is copied from kit box with some variations. Not too much imagination used with finishing.

FlyerInOKC 08-01-2021 06:10 AM

Rustoleum/Krylon and it has stayed on when running the .56 Saito. It does wear some in handling but once you mount it permanently that problem is solved.

A giant pic of my Sr. I realized I hadn’t put one up after finishing a few years back.

FlyerInOKC 08-23-2021 07:37 PM

Nice! Is that your Cherokee in the background?

biam 08-24-2021 12:23 PM

Yes it is. The Cherokee is equipped with flaps, was experimenting with them and getting used to using them again. Both have magnum four strokes. The Cherokee has a .52 and the Sr. Has a .70. Will try to post smaller pics next time when I figure it out. Tried to put up two pics yesterday but the site experienced difficulty’s😒

Sig kobra ep conversion

I was wondering if any of you chaps have converted a sig kobra to Electric? My hangar Queen has sat under the table saw for too long and the motor is shot. Tank is gross. Battery pack kaput. A .25 electric motor should be more than sufficient no?? 9" max on the prop length. Thanks in advance!

Flight Risk 09-22-2021 06:43 AM

I'm not too familiar with the Kobra, but have converted a couple other glow planes to electric. One concern I would have is that you will need to stuff a 3000 mAh or larger battery near the nose to get any flight time, and my guess is you may need to relocate servos farther back. Would the battery be inserted through the canopy or will the wing need to come off? I'm sure it can be done, but will take some reconfiguring.

vlcordero 09-22-2021 09:53 AM

Thanks for responding! I wasn't sure i would even get a response! I have 8-1/2 inches from the front engine bulkhead to the 3rd, and luckily only the throttle servo was there which will also be eliminated. 2nd bulkhead has a 2-1/4 square hole cutout so I am optimistic I can get a decent pack in there. Unfortunately to utilize all that space, I will have to opt for the wing off battery installation. It had a .32 in it so I was looking for a .32 motor, but I cannot swing an 11" prop due to ground clearance. I was ready to move on some parts and realized I may need to downsize the motor but hope to have equal performance as the .32. Of course I would NEVER overthink such a rather simple conversion before execution. 😆 🤣 i will look into my battery options to see what is available! Thanks for the suggestion! So.. about that motor size... 😂

acdii 09-22-2021 10:26 AM

Look into the Eflite Power 25 1250KV. It works with the prop size you need. If the plane weighs more than 5.5 pounds though, you may need to go to a larger motor. Prop size for that motor is 8x8E to 10x10E (3S). I have a pair of them flying my Twin Otter, but for that plane it needs 8800 MAH 3S packs for it to fly more than a couple minutes after take off due to it's size. Don't forget that batteries work on their sides too.

You do know that you can down size the blade length by adding a blade? I was just looking at the OS 35 AX and it runs a 10X6 for break in. If you can clear a 9" prop, a 3 blade 9X6 would probably work. If the engine you had was an OS 32, the 35 is a drop in replacement. IF you have your heart set on the electric conversion, ignore my post.

There is a 200% Kadet Senior build be done on the other site. Some great work.

I'm back again. Been a busy few months with no flying. The frozen Arctic is living up to it's reputation this winter. But, my wife who loves me and puts up with my foolishness and poor decision making skills decided i needed an other kit to build. So now i have a Kadet LT25 awaiting its turn on the building board. I am torn between building it exactly per the plans and saving it to teach my son with in a few years(he just turned 15 months, so it will be awhile), or bashing the hell out of it and making another super STOL mudplane. Show me your LTs guys and help me decide.

Mud Duck 01-25-2022 04:19 AM

Glad you’re back!

I would recommend building it now. When he’s old enough there will be other kits and planes to build. My LT-25 is approaching 25 years old. My dad built it for me with an O.S. FS-26 four-stroke to start with. He modified it to have a servo on each aileron so that it could have the benefits of flaperons and it’s awesome! The covering became hard and brittle over the years so I refurbished it and converted it to electric and a bolt-on wing. I love how it flies with electric power, especially the landings with the flaperons. It is like a dead stick landing each time and it will slow to a stop. Initially I was using A123 cells, but now it uses Li-Po’s.

I just got this one done last month and looking forward to warm weather. Converted to tricycle landing gear. Bolt on wings and powered by OS 40fp. It also has dual aileron servos with flapperons.

I just checked out that thread. He finally had the maiden a couple weeks ago. Fun to watch video. Big DLE 170 twin.

FlyerInOKC 01-25-2022 06:48 AM

Rich, you have a very classy looking airplane!

D_I_N_O 02-27-2022 11:44 PM

Against all odds I managed to complete float installation within one winter build season. This is mainly because floats are only modified version of ARF set for Great Planes Avistar 30cc:D
Floats fit nicely although they are bit too wide. Avistar is bigger plane but I think these floats look too small for it. All plywood construction with film covering. I changed top covering from blue to Oracover Bordeaux red which is perfect match for my selected paint. This is just lucky coincidence. Float set included nice white aluminium strut set for installation which I could not use. I did bend some piano wire instead.

Here is video of short test flight with frozen fingers. I don't usually do any winter flying. Temperature was -10 C, half flap take off and full flap landing.

Nice job!

Looks good on floats.

When I built my Kadet Sr. I installed hard points for floats, but I never ended up building any floats for her. But the last Kadet Jr. I did build floats for it although I then had to add the hard point for them. The floats were a bit small as there were no hobby shops around and I just used the material I had on hand. And then I moved again and did not have access to be able to float fly. Closest it got to water was the apartments pool for pics.

Well with my soon move to the Mo. Ozarks I should have plenty of water. I have ribs for a new wing for my Sr. made. Barn door ailerons and slotted flaps. I will have to make a set of floats for it, and a new set for the Jr. I had to get rid of a bunch of stuff on my last move.

I'm finally getting the rebuild of a crashed LT-40 ARF started.
Rather than pay for a fuse kit from Sig, I'll just cut my own balsa and make my own. Too bad shipping for LT-40 plans from Sig costs more than the plans! So I'll have to figure it out from the jig-saw pieces the crash left behind.
The critical question:
How much down and side thrust is built in? Would rather do it when installing the firewall, than afterwards by shimming the engine.
Otherwise, should be a relatively quick rebuild.

flyingagin 03-01-2022 08:13 AM

If the angels are the same as a Kadet SR, JR, or any other Kadet size just go that way. I don't know, but would be somewhat surprised if the angels are not the same. Plans for the the Kadet can be found online for down loading, free. I don't remember the angels myself.

Some one else on here might be able to chime in with the info want also.

Ken

Okay guys, direct from the Sig website:
SIG LT-40 TRAINER KIT - Sig Manufacturing (sigmfg.com)
Incidence is 0 degrees for the horizontal stabilizer, 1.5 degrees positive on the wing
Engine should be set at 6 degrees right and down

Thanks Hydro! I didn't scroll far down enough!
Wow, 6 and 6...I never would have guessed that much!
