Looking for Books/reverence for basic building

I started out RTF in March. I have an Aerobird and a Great Planes Spirit sailplane. My first ARF was an Electrajet foamie which I have completed.

I just bought plans for a small electric that will be built up from balsa and covered with film. I have also decided to take a crack at these SPAD planes made out of foam board and plasticor.

What books, magazines, forums would you recommend for someone with such limited building experience? I think I need basic techniques most of all.

I would appreciate any advice.

Get a copy of Harry Higley's "Getting Airborne Volume II".

Get volumes one and two!! :D

Higley's the guy! You might want to look at the others in the line. The book 'Bipes' goes into more 'building detail' and thats not just for Bipes!

The publishers of Model Airplane News have a few books, but I find they are rather pricey. RC Modeler magazine have a few as well. Just look in teh back of both magazines, and you'll see the ads for them..

Another 'cheap' way to gain experience, is to buy a Gullows kit, and build it. These are little 'rubber band powered' (Most!!) planes that teach stick building, show die cutting, and basic covering..

Yep, the Higley series of guide books offer very detailed building and covering techniques, whether you're building a kit or arf. You can order them from Tower or direct from Higley.

Apart from that, RCU offers great info and resources on building and mods for most planes in the market. Do a search and you won't regret it !
