Primer
 

Anyone know what type of primer I can use over Dope? Sig doen't list a primer on its website so I was wondering if a rattlecan type of primer will work. Thanks!

Depends on the dope. If it is nitrate, almost any primer will work. If it is butyrate, almost no primer will work.

Problem with butyrate, is that it continues to shrink, forever, and if the overcoat is not compatible, it will crack.

What type of paint are you wanting to put over the butyrate dope? Really, only more dope is completely compatible. I have seen full scale planes where the owners attempted to put other types of finish over an old butyrate base and over time, it just peeled off in huge sheets.

Using Sig Superkote as color.

Are you just looking for a base coat? Have you considered just using the white?
There is no need for a "primer" to stick dope to dope.

I was looking for more of a sanding guide. Its kinda hard to see what you have sanded and what you haven't with the clear

You can ad some talcum powder to the clear and then you can see it as you sand. Also, silver makes a good base to see for sanding.

So how much talcum powder would you add, tablespoon? teaspoon?? per 8 ounces???

I dont know. I added enough to be able to brush on thick coat with no runs. I then block sanded it all back off.
