I like SIG planes. First one I had was a SIG Kougar Mark II, back in '81. Had a K&B .61 with fuel pump, Futaba four channel. I built and flew two more SIG Kougars in the mid 90's with O.S. Max .61 and Futaba four channel again. Built my most recent SIG Kougar in '13 with an O.S. Max .65AX & Mac's Tuned Pipe. This build was special in tribute to all the previous Kougars I had built previously. So I did some special modifications to the electronics of the plane. Unlike the previous Kougars, this one has a total of six servos (one per aileron, one per rudder & nose wheel, independent from each other). Also has sensors for engine temp & RPM and GPS which provides data for alt, speed, atmospheric pressure (rate of climb). Transmitter is the Futaba 18mz. I built this Kougar special just for this reason as mentioned above. Power plant was broken in on the bench using the stock muffler that came with the engine. Once the break in process was successfully complete, the stock muffler was removed and the Mac's tuned pipe was installed, which increased the max rpms by roughly 1,000.

Currently building a SIG Komet. It's a really old vintage kit but totally complete. Bought it recently and the build is at about 50% complete. Being an old vintage kit, this build is very special. I'm planning to use the O.S. Max .65AX power plant in this plane as well. So far, this SIG Komet build is the best build I've ever done to date. Finished putting the skins on the wing cores the other day and they both turned out amazing! The assembly of the fuselage, horizontal and vertical stabs are nearly complete. Majority of work ahead on these components is the sanding.

I do love these SIG planes:)

You know what?? I completely forgot about the 4-Stars. I've had list 6 4-Star 40's, 3 4-Star 60's, and 3 4-Star 120's!!!!

Hey
Thank you for putting me down. Now if I can justify #1 as far as I am concerned Glen, Hazel and Maxie were and still are #1.

Did you by any chance happen to buy out Sig at some time. LOL In my time I have own and built just about every thing they had . I have the T-34 and put the P61 into the turf. What a great bunch of planes.

Jim Branaum 01-23-2014 02:05 PM

I stopped building Sig Kougars at #21 because we moved to a grass runway and the nose gear used to drag way to much. Part of that problem was because since about 1988 I have been using Saito's 50 and 56 which work best with a 12 inch prop and I lengthened the gear legs by 1 inch. In grass that makes the nose (dragger) way too soft and I was not interested in converting an existing plane to a tail dragger and did not have another kit. I guess I have to build my 4* for it to count...

triumphman49 01-23-2014 03:46 PM

I'd also like to join this brotherhood. Rekitted a 4*40 many years ago, currently have a Smith MiniPlane nearing completion with a Saito 60T up front, a 4*60 that's rite behind it to use as an engine test bed, and down the road a bit, a 1\3 Spacewalker for my Saito 270 twin.

If I understood rite, #22 suits me just fine, or whatever you assign in the next update list.

Many Thanx

Well here is my Sig. I have owned 3 other sig kits, like the kadet etc. But this was my favorite. It is DLE 55 powered Morrisey Bravo and is a rocket.

Now if the current owners would just start producing new/discontinued kits again we could expand our SIG fleets! Even if they took pre-orders inadvance so they would know how many they could sale.

malitape 01-24-2014 07:52 AM

Please add me to this brotherhood.

I've experienced that exact issue with the Kougars too. The alternatives I've looked at is a three blade prop which takes off a little of the length of the prop. With my current Kougar, I have a 11x8 on it. There's roughly an inch and a half to two inches of clearance on paved runway. I fly at a paved runway so....I'm lucky thus far. I've also had the 13x6 props on it but only get about a half inch of clearance using those. No way could I take off in grass or dirt runway with that sized prop.

All:
If you go to the AMR website they have sig kits. Also within the next week or so the Morrissey bravo will be coming back as well. You can sign up for their news letter to receive updates.

Count me in. Hopefully SIG will notice. Kadet SR. Not only a fav. It's the best way to get in this hobby/sport for the next generation. The LT40 also.
As a matter of fact I remember the fist time I saw a Kadet. 11 or 12 years old at Spivey's Hobby Shop. (Bubba Spivey's Dad). My Dad said 'too expensive to just crash' (He was a CL guy but did teach me about building and silk/dope). Drooled over it for years.

FlyerInOKC 01-27-2014 06:50 AM

It's hard to beat a Kadet as a trainer Properly built they fly like a dream. I also love my Rascal C great flier but could be a little tricky to build for a first timer.
