Vintage kit inventory
 

While going thru a Megow Quaker Flash to see what was there I came across what appears to be provided prop blank. Its stamped with a small diamond shape box and has some wording but without a magnifying glass I can't make it out. Looking at it I realized if I had to carve my own prop I guess I never would have gotten into modeling. Don't mind having to carve a little balsa now and then to finish a kit but the prop would be a little much. Looks like it came with a little envelope of pins and one with screws and nuts as well, pretty cool. Anybody have an idea about a timeline on this kit? I've always thought a Quaker would be cool but I don't think this ones for building.....

Got a call from a friend at my wood working club and someone donated a few kits and a bunch of balsa wood plus a lot of items I could really use. The bottom one said it was for a two channel so I figured what the heck, I have some new 1/2A engines and small servos. When I opened the kit all it had was some wing ribs and nothing else worth mentioning. The top one is a complete kit. On the plans the date is usually printed, in my case it was 1942 as I recall. No die cut parts at all, just silk screened wood. Very old school but I built a ton of them that way when I first started modeling. Not really into free flight at all these days so I may take it out to the lake bed with me and donate it to the free flight club for part of there raffle.

I can remember back in the 50's having some rubber powered kits I built supplying a balsa prop "blank" to be finished out by the builder, but not any glow powered kits doing that. But heck, why not! Its just wood. :) I am sure one would have to be quite skilled, paying attention to making both blades the same and balancing it when done. Its going to turn a lot more RPM than a rubber power prop and the danger is much greater. For the price of today's wood props, ( cheap @ $3.00-$5.00) you would be foolish to want to finish out and run that prop. I know you don't intend to use it, but you could make a display prop out of it.

I agree Larry, there's no way I could ever see that prop blank being finished out. It's pretty awe inspiring to think guys actually were that dedicated to seeing such a bird fly. I think I'm going to probably list it for sale with the option of delivering to the Bluegrass Vintage fly-in coming up. Someone attending that would probably appreciate such a piece of history more than I do.
