Ace 4-60 bipe instructions
 

I just received a supposedly NIB 4-60 bipe. All is there except the instruction manual. Anyone out there have a scan or copy?

I had one. Best flying bipe I ever had. I literally wore it out I flew it so many times. Add interplane struts to it and make them functional. Towards the end of it's life, you could see both wings flex on mine when I did a snap roll. A K&B .65 was a perfect match too.

I'm not sure if I still have the build instructions but I'll check when I get home.

I was thinking struts would be a good modification. Did you add ailerons to the top wing or leave it original? Thanks for checking.

Download them. I was able to find them on my iphone. Google ace460manual.pdf. I have it on my phone. Bipe instructions are on the last page.

I found the instructions you are referring to. Unfortunately the biplane reference at the end is for beefing up the horizontal and vertical stab. It looks like a straightforward build, I'm just unsure about the cabana setup.

I only had ailerons on the bottom wing. I never felt it was necessary to have them on the top wing. If you do put ailerons on that wing it will require quite a bit of mods to make it work.

or 6 channel RX to mix upper and lower aileron servos on. It's like the Biper Cub I am building, Deciding on whether to lock the lower ailerons or add 2 more servos to the bottom wing and mix channels on the RX. If the radio can be setup to do so, can turn the bottom wing into flaperons, and do some hang time.

Did you leave the top wing incidence alone or modify? How effective was the stock rudder, do you see any need to enlarge the surface

I built mine with the incidences set per the kit. I didn't modify the rudder either. I don't see a need. It flew fantastic as is.

Are these heavy planes? The one I picked up seems a bit on the heavy side compared to the planes I built.

There is a lot of plywood in the fuse and the 4-60 bipe is kind of heavy. However; mine flew fantastic. I really liked that plane.

Hi all. New to RCU. Have scanned the forums for information and finally joined today. Started glow planes back in the 80s, Family grew, field got buit on, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, was reintroduced a few years ago and my how things have changed! I can't believe how easy (and cheap) it is to get a plane in the air now. A couple months ago I took the 4-60 Bipe down from over the garage to convert to EP. Finished it this afternoon but can't find the manual (have the plans). Can someone tell me the recommended control throws? Thanks

Rudder 3/4 “ right and left
Elevator 1/2 “ up and down
Allerons 3/8 up and down

Thank you, Ken! I was hoping you'd still be watching this after 2 years. I've kept the plans and instructions for the planes I've built and still have. I have two sets for the Sportster 60 (that should tell you something). I even have the plans for the 4-40 Bipe that showed up in RCM magazine. But Heck if I know where that instruction books is. Here's a pic of mine. It's close to 30 years old. Got it as soon as the kit came out and the plan is dated 1988. Never crashed so it's in pretty good shape. Just some wingtip scuffs underneath from curbs in the unbuilt office park we used to fly at. It hasn't flown in at least 25 years and will have to wait at least another 4 months with our NE winter in full swing. Thanks again.

Funny thing about that 4-60 bipe. I haven't seen a kit or even a partially built one at a swap meet in many years, if at all.

Ya, I see 4-40s and 4-60s, once in awhile, but the bipes are rare as hen's teeth.

The all you need are some sticks and sheeting.

Finally maidened the electrified 4-60 Bipe. It flew well, like a sport flyer. Not enough posts to add video but search "ace 4-60 bipe" on YouTube to see a couple take-offs and landings. Thanks again to Ken for the long lost manual info. Will probably use the winter to try and apply the power combo to my even older Sig Citabria.
