where to find kits
looking for decent kits
getting harder to find |
What type of kits? Trainer, scale, warbird, etc......
|
RCU Marketplace or the Bay are where I am having any luck at finding the old one's. Tower Hobbies has a selection of Top Flite, Great Planes and Sig kits for sale. Good Luck, Dave

Did you check the "Where have all the kits gone" sticky at the top of this forum?

With a lot of folks going the RTF most manufacturers cut down the selection or quit making kits all together (if they stayed in business). I have been working on getting airplane KITS in my shop without going through the major distributors for something different but that can be a bit of work shaking the bushes.

Go to as many swap meets as you can because you can find all kinds there. There's a guy in my club who has a bunch he bought when he was young thinking he would build when he retired now he buys arfs and the kits sit in his basement. I keep telling him he can make a fortune on ebay.

There will be kits at the Perry, GA swap meet. I've gotten some real bargains but for the last year of two they were a little scarce. I know there at least two hobby shops that set up there and they have kits stacked 10 deep x 4 tables long every year. The prices for those hobby shop kits aren't going to be discounted and you still might do better ordering online.

I frequent the classifieds on the forums. immediate gratification may not be there, but persistence can yield the right kit and the right price.
I look for out of production kits, mostly. I eventually get what I'm looking for. A few examples are pictured. |
