Having basic problems..
 

Hey everybody!

So about a week ago I posted a thread asking for help with a problem. I couldn't bind my receiver to my transmitter. I followed the manual, and I could never bind. My brother had previously plugged thing in randomly and I thought my receiver was blown, so I bought a new receiver. I decided to ditch the manual because it wasn't updated. When I plug my ESC into the actual slot that says "BAT" it heats up. Is it possible my ESC is blown? (I am using the Turnigy 9x 9CH transmitter with the transmitter that came with it.) I am new to RC and any help would be appreciated!

You should have kept that instruction manual. You do NOT plug the ESC into the BAT terminal, you plug it into the THROTTLE channel. Also, make sure that the throttle is properly set, for Futaba and Tactic (and maybe HiTec) the throttle needs to be reversed (set to REV) and the trim setting at the low end. For Spectrum and some other brands it need to be set to NORM with trim low. Also different ESC's need different arming tecniques (read your manual).

Ok so here is an update: Channel 3 of my receiver is the throttle, but there is also a BAT port. Do I have the wrong receiver? Do I need a receiver designed to take power through the ESC plugged into the throttle channel?

I think typically you only use the battery plug in for a separate on board receiver pack. If you are using a Speed control with a BEC then you will leave the battery slot open.

Thanks for the reply! Im not sure what the problem is. I got the whole kit from FliteTest except the receiver and transmitter. I know they should work as they came together, but I have no idea why they don't! Im also from Iowa btw. Thx for the help!

Yes, if using an ESC you plug it into the throttle channel , nothing goes to the BAT slot. You use the BAT slot if you do not have an ESC as most ESC's have a built in BEC (battery eliminator circuit) built into it and supplies the 5 volts to the receiver through the Throttle slot. If you try to plug your LiPo battery (if it is more than one cell) into the battery slot you will most likely burn out the receiver and also any servos that may be plugged into the receiver at that time. Again READ YOUR MANUAL that came with the system.

The guys at Flight Test seem pretty customer friendly. Try contacting them and they may be able to provide a diagram or photo of the specific setup that they sold you.
