Cloud Dancer 60 build

Getting too cold to fly here in north Utah, so back to the building board. I picked up a Ace Cloud Dancer 60 by Fred Reese a while back and wanted a new sport plane. Have not posted a build thread in a long time so bear with me as I try to get the pics, etc figured out.
Here is the subject

Having a little trouble here. Anyone advise how to keep adding without having to "reply" to my own thread? Trying to add pics but the button to browse my devise is not working.

Only modification so far is that the plans call for a single aileron servo set in the fuse. I like two servos and so added servo in the wing

All skinned now. Starting to cut and fit ailerons and trailing edges

You are making some good progress.
I hear that these can be really nice flying airplanes..

I have a 40 size that I picked up in rough shape many years ago. I have been picking at the rebuild for a long time as well.
I'll be watching your build.
Maybe it will help me get motivated to set some building time aside so I can finish that thing up.

Embarrassed to post this but what the hay! In setting the dihedral at the root ribs I apparently got misaligned. Will attempt to shave down for fit but am concerned with keeping the main spars straight and not get any sweep to the wing. Following is the mistake, the attempt to correct and the alignment of the spars.

Here we go again with trouble getting the attachments uploaded

Got the alignment spot on. Will have to fill at the joint. I would have asked for any suggestions but spent 2 days trying to upload so you could see the issue at hand.

RICKSTUBBZ 11-12-2024 10:59 AM

good idea for getting/keeping the spar straight.

As to uploading pictures issues, are you accessing the sight from phone or computer?
I had too many issues with my "Firefox" browser on the computer and had to switch to Chrome and my uploading issues went away..

Sure looks like you did a nice job with the fiberglass.
What cloth and resin did you use?

When I re-glassed the center of my 40 rebuild I managed to make a mess... With a lot of sanding, I got it cleaned up. But, by comparison, I made a lot of extra work for myself.

adreliable661 11-20-2024 09:37 AM

Thanks for the response. Not sure on the weight of the glass. I would guess around 5 oz/ It came with the kit and no documentation. I use Zap Z-Poxy PT40 finishing resin. Finishing resin is sandable whereas your other epoxy's are more for bonding materials together and next to impossible to sand. You don't need the high strength epoxy on the wing joint. The strength is in the glass. Get on you tube and look up Dan Gellner, episode 11 'Fiberglassing the wing joint'. He has a nice video showing the simplicity. Nothing high tech. Hope this helps

Your build is moving right along!
Will not be long and you'll be busting out the covering materials.

Interesting development. I don't believe I have done anything wrong. However after attaching former F6 as instructed, F4 was too wide to fit and had to be shaved down about 1/8" on each side. Then after attaching the fuse end together, all the formers aft of F6 were too small and had to be slid back almost medioum of the uprights. Shen set on the top view all lined up according to the plans. I don't think this will impact anything going forward.

Explanation - This is the 2nd alteration I have made to this kit. I am using a Saito.82 inverted. In order to get the fuel tank placed for proper draw I needed to extend the bottom of the nose area to accommodate. Also making a hatch so as to be able to service the tank when needed. I plan on glassing that piece just to make it a little firmer for those screws

Another alteration. Not comfortable with the tail wheel setup. So decided to go with a pull-pull system. Added extra servo for tail wheel linked by y- harness with rudder.

So as to make room w/o interference I elevated the servo 1/8 inch. perfect fit

I like the "Graphics" - font & shadow you used...
I am still tinkering around with my 40 sized Cloud Dancer rebuild. Had planned to finish off my wing today as well. But then about 5 other things got in the way...Go figure..

adreliable661 01-12-2025 04:01 PM

Thanks. Wish I was artistic and able to produce stuff like this. This was just the decals that came with the kit. Would love to see a pic of what you are trying to refurbish.
