Starting a Venture 60
Going to start building my Venture 60 pretty soon. Any tips from people who have built this masterpiece?

RE: Starting a Venture 60
this link has a lot of good info in it:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Star..._262560/tm.htm like everyone says - you'll love this plane - very forgiving with no bad tendancies, but also a wide performance envelope. here are what seems to be the major considerations: 1) one aileron servo or two? i went two and have no regrets. if you have a computer radio it's really the way to go. i didn't follow bruce's instructions for 2 servo's - after much consideration i went with the sideways servo on a hatch approach. much cleaner with only the arm sticking out. 2) stick with the recommended engine range or go bigger? i went with a saito .91 and am very pleased. it will fly with less but i haven't seen any disadvantages with going with a .91 - especially a light one like the saito. i've experimented with 13x9, 13x11 and 14x6 props, all with good results. 3) put elevator and rudder serovs in stock positions or rear of fuse? i put mine in fuse as in plans and it balanced perfectly. i viewed it as one less mod that i needed to think about. 4) covering choice? this goes for every plane but i made the mistake of going with transparent ultracote on both sides =====> bad! ultracote is a joy to work with, but the plane was almost invisible. i've since recovered using a solid on the bottom and the plane is so much easier to fly now that i can see it heh. i also agree with people who recommend going with contrasting colors on each side (i.e. blue stripes on yellow top or white stripes on red bottom etc.) - this works well too. enjoy the plane - its a good build. the only problems i had were identifying parts sometimes and i found the manual harder to follow than i expected (this was my first kit tho). boneman p.s. this is another site with good v60 info: http://www.venture60.com/ |
RE: Starting a Venture 60
I just finished mine (pics in this forum). I built it for one wing servo, but modified it for two after the fact. I did not clip the wing, but some people have. Haven't flown it yet due to engine problems- might have to wait for spring...yikes...........
It was a fun build until covering. Very exasperating. I swore off kit building several times...until I took it to the field and compared my work to that on the ARFs. Looking for second build now. |
