Building Question
I just got my fuse framed up and notice that at the rear it has a slight twist in it its not bad but its enough to drive me crazy. My question is how can I straighten it back up? I can flex it back to where it needs to be no problem but how can I make it stay?

RE: Building Question
If you haven't glued the top and bottom decks on yet, be sure the fuselage is pinned down straight when you do. Once they are in place, the fuselage should be very stiff and remain straight.
Also, glue one deck on cross grain. Usually the bottom is cross grain and the top deck has the grain running along the length of the fuselage. If the decks are already glued in place, then you should probably cut them off and replace them, but build it as above. You could try steam, but it doesn't work all that well. |
RE: Building Question
Just a guess... is it a Goldberg kit?
Like Cafeen said, if it's closed up, your best bet is to break the glue joints, hold everything firmly in place (and square) and re-glue. |
RE: Building Question
Thanks for the info guys...

RE: Building Question
What type of glue did you use? If you used CyA you can apply debonder to the joints, wait a while, then work a thin knife blade in to separate the wood. Takes time, but it works.

RE: Building Question
Just be careful with the thin knife blade and don't hurry it or you may end up with a Nike logo shaped scar on your left thumb like I have from doing that. :D

RE: Building Question
Well I have got the twist out it wasn't much of a twist maybe about 1/8th an inch. I broke out the water bottle and the heat gun!!!! weighted it down until it was a little past level and started heating. The heat gun I use is a wagner gun for removing paint it gets twice as hot as your regular heat gun you get from the hobby shop.

Beardking-
I just looked down at my left thumb and discovered that that 15 year old scar DOES kind of look like a Nike Swoosh! Now lets see ... always cut AWAY from your body. -Scott |
RE: Building Question

I'm gonna save a bundle on Band Aids. :D |
